It is a fantastic mill. I use it to grind everything from large beans down to tiny quinoa.

I love it!
I am very pleased with the GrainMaster grain mill. which was a refurbished product. The Mill itself looks and performs like new.I am also very pleased with the service of the UpperCrust company. The green plastic lid arrived damaged due to the box being damaged. I phoned the enclosed phone number and the very pleasant young man at The UpperCrust assured me he would put a replacement lid in the mail at no cost. I received the new lid within a few days. It's a pleasure doing buisness with you!MaryPoppins Fun!

best of the best
We have used grain mills of various manufacture, makes, models, and power for over 30 years. I still have 6 still operational units of various types taking up space in my workshop. But there is only one in the kitchen, and as long as there is electricity flowing through the kitchen circuitry, that is all you will find there if my wife has anything to say about it. We have a Whisper Mill that sees nearly daily duty grinding flour for two families. This machine is at least 15 years old and has never, repeat never once failed to produce an outstanding quality product whether it is wheat, rice, quinoa (sp?), amaranth, you name a common grain and it has been through this machine. I read the review of the individual who has had so many issues and I can't believe we are talking about the same machine. We have replaced one piece on our machine in the years we have had it, that is the foam filter in the top of the product container. I bough a packet of 3 several years ago and still have two unused ones in the drawer. As for the clogging, not once has my wife had it happen. Broken pieces, I don't know how they are handling their pieces, but ours gets gentle loving care. Cleaning the curved line carrying the flour/meal to the storage container? My wife taps it gently on the bowl edge and that is it. There is no need to wash it each time as the tiny amount of material left from the day before is of no consequence. IN FACT, she says that she never washes the storage unit, unless it becomes soiled by other debris. This machine produces the best flours we have ever made, bar none. In fact when the rumor came around that the company was going out of business, my sweet wife found a gently used unit at her favorite cooking store and it now rests peacefully in the pantry awaiting such time as our current unit might give up the ghost, of which there is absolutely no indicator. I am sorry for the indivdual who has had such a miserable experience and can only say that they must have gotten the lemon of the lemons in the product. We have many, many friends and family who do home grinding and everyone who is serious and has used our Whisper Mill has eventually gotten one. Of those I know of not one who would trade theirs away, if they could not replace it. Thanks for listening.

Worst Mill We Have Ever Used
We have used many types of grain mills, and this one was by far the worst. We used triple cleaned grain, and were experienced with the use of grain mills. It was not significantly quieter than the K-tec, and had numerous problems. All I can think is that people who like it lack the experience to know that there is anything better, or just never used it much! The worst aspect of the design is the tube that goes from the mill to the bin. It is CURVED, so you really can't clean it out! And it clogs easily - it narrows dramatically right where it attaches to the bin. When it clogs, it impacts flour up into the mill - causing a problem that you may or may not be able to fix yourself. The tube could also get impacted if you accidentally started or stopped the mill when there was wheat in the hopper - something which happens with regular frequency given the propensity of the mill to shut down unexpectedly in operation (or to have to be shut down). The tube cracked with repeated use on the end that was permanently fixed to the lid of the flour bin. The only solution was electrical tape bound around it, or buying a new lid. It cracked within about 10 uses. The coarseness settings were not helpful. The finest setting would not mill at all. Seriously, the grains bounced off the burrs and it would not mill. The next finest setting made mealy flour, which was not fine enough to use for gravy or other uses requiring even moderately fine flour. The motor would periodically shut off, and require reset using a button on the bottom of the motor portion. Not easy to access when the mill has wheat at the top and flour in the bin.The mill required turning it on before you added grain to the hopper - so you could never tell by the amount of grain in the hopper just how much you had put in, as it was slowly lowering the whole time you were adding wheat. It held enough that if we scooped it in, it was very easy to lose track of how many cups we'd tossed in. This is a critical thing because the flour bin is opaque - you cannot tell how full it is! And if it is overfilled... you guessed it... the tube plugs up, and impacts up into the mill! This mill lasted us several years before something in the motor audibly broke. At that point, it was almost a relief to say goodbye to the horrid thing!I have never before, or since, used a mill with a worse design, or poorer performance.

Whisper Mill excellent!
We have had a Grain Master Whisper Mill for 15 + yrs now and have never had a problem with it. WE LOVE THIS MILL cuz it is so quiet compared to the brand we had before this one.We grind wheat, corn, and a few other grains. BUT DO NOT GRIND FLAX SEED IN IT! It will plug up the machine and could burn the motor up. I almost did this, but the breaker in the bottom of the unit saved my machine for me. It plugged up pretty bad, but I was able to clean it out and then ran a batch of grain through it to clean out what I didn't get. If you are wanting to grind flax seed use a coffee grinder, the little units you can do small batches with work beautifully.
