I really enjoyed the TRUBAR Vegan Protein Bar in Strawberry Shorty Got Cake. It has a dessert-like flavor that doesn’t taste artificial, which is hard to find in protein bars. I bought these TRUBAR Strawberry Shorty Got Cake flavor bars looking for a protein option that didn't taste "artificial" and the truth is that they surprised me a lot. From the first bite, the flavor really reminds of a strawberry cake, sweet but balanced, without that strange aftertaste that many bars have. I love that they are made from plants and that they do not contain gluten, dairy products, soy or sugar alcohols, because I am very careful with the ingredients I consume. Each bar has 12 g of protein and 12 g of fiber, so it keeps me satisfied for several hours, perfect as a mid-morning snack or when I don't have time to prepare something else. The texture is soft and pleasant, it does not feel hard or dry, and the size is ideal to carry in the bag. In addition, it gives me a lot of peace of mind to know that I am eating something with cleaner ingredients, without sacrificing the flavor. After trying them, I would definitely buy them again and would also recommend them to those looking for a vegan protein bar that really tastes good and feels like a taste, not an obligation.

I absolutely love this bar. The bar is soft and fresh. It has a strawberry flavor that’s perfectly sweet. It has a good amount of protein to keep me full and the sugar content is okay. I like that it has better, healthier ingredients. It’s portable and easy to toss in a bag for snacks or workouts. It does have a chalky protein taste and the texture is chewy and gets suck in and hurts my teeth but overall it’s a tasty and convenient protein snack.

I tried the TRUBAR vegan protein bar in strawberry cake flavor and I really liked it. It has a smooth texture, it's not dry or gritty like some other vegan bars, and the flavor is sweet but pleasant, quite reminiscent of a strawberry cupcake. Subtracted two stars for two reasons: 1) - 1/2 a star for the use of palm oil - and not light use -it is the fifth ingredient listed. Palm oil is extremely high in saturated fat (the bad kind). 2) Subtracted 1.5 stars for TruBar's attempt to distract and/or mislead their customer by touting the highly unhealthy, scientifically proven to be artery clogging material known as "palm oil" as "responsibly sourced". Firstly, it is ridiculous to market artery clogging food as a healthy substitute for another artery clogging food, responsibly sourced, or not. Secondly, the efficacy of "RSPO" (responsibly sourced...) Palm Oil products is questionable as it pertains to both social justice and protection against environmental degradation. They are delicious - like a cigarette break. At least cigarettes are an appetite suppressant. There is enough sugar in TruBar to kick in cravings for another, right away (as other reviewers have echoed). I ordered a few boxes before I realized and will keep them, but TruBar cannot be a go-to bar for maintaining a healthy heart. This is not a product that one should consume with frequency. It would be fantastic if the new company owners replaced the palm oil with a healthier alternative.

I love the Strawberry Shortcake ones, but I'm not in love with any of the other flavors I've tried so I love that I can buy a whole box of this one. It's sort of a strange pasty texture but I find the flavor really good and easy to get down vs some other protein bars. Doesn't have a ton of protein in it but that's okay.

Protein bars are a weird lot. You tend to either get something that tastes like soggy sawdust, or it's basically a candy bar marketed as "health food". These definitely buck that trend, by being (relatively) tasty and actually achieving what they've set out to do. Namely, being a reasonable plant-based source of protein (that's dairy, soy, and gluten free!) that tastes good without relying on a lot of sugar or weird sugar "alternatives". That's honestly huge. Yes it does have sugar in it, but it's organic cane sugar and truly there isn't that much (compared to the aforementioned "healthy" candy bars). The protein seems to come from rice, cashews, and peas. So it's not nut free, but you got to draw the line somewhere unfortunately. The consistency is pretty chewy, I guess from the tapioca fibre, but it's still easy to chew. Kinda forces you to eat it slower, which is probably a good thing so you don't down the whole thing in a couple bites. You can definitely taste the strawberry, it's not overwhelming but it's there. At worst I'd still describe it as pleasant. Your mileage may vary, but it's leagues above those "sawdust" bars I mentioned. The frosting also helps. Unfortunately I can't give these five stars, but it's really the price that's the only con in my books. You do get a pretty decent number of these in the box, and the shelf life is reasonable. But even though they're relatively nutritional, they'll still be a guilty pleasure due to the price. Still, if you're desperate for more protein in your diet and you need to juggle other dietary concerns while also having a bit of accounting for taste, these are certainly worth a try.

For what these bars are, they taste great. I don't know that they necessarily taste exactly like strawberry shortcake, but they taste sweet with a strawberry filling, and that's close enough. As someone who really dislikes artificial sweeteners, any bar that avoids them and doesn't have that nasty aftertaste is a winner, and these are no exception. I find them pleasant and reach for them gladly, even though they're not the most affordable. EDIT 2026: I have also now tried the Whipped For Key Lime flavour, and I prefer the Strawberry Shorty Got Cake. Both are good, but I think the strawberry one tastes a lot more like what it is trying to. I will note these aren't really protein bars, for my purposes. I look for 20g of protein in a protein bar, and these are half that. They're still a good thing to have on hand, like for days when I am just too tired to do anything and it at least gets some protein in me in a convenient manner, but it's important to note they're not the most protein dense bars out there.
