Use a rain gauge to check to see if you need to add water. It's best to water with a drip or trickle system that delivers water at low pressure at the soil level. Good germination! Felt like a โcorn baronessโ with my tiny crop of 16 plants!
Iโm finally growing corn!!!! To get an early start on the growing season, a total of 18 seeds were started indoors in 4โx4โ pots set on a heating pad and under grow lights for 10 hours daily. 16 seedlings were later transferred to grow bags when 2 - 3โ tall. -Yep, I had two (2) duds. Be warned, they may be slow to germinate, but as growing conditions become more favorable they will grow fast and are heavy feeders. They were transferred to grow bags on February 19th and moved to a kiddie pool (one of those cheap plastic 45โ pools) on March 27. The reason for the kiddie pool is for the plants to maintain a consistent moisture level & to keep the corn ant free. Between the kiddie pool and warmer weather, the plants have really taken off. February 11 - Seeds planted February 19 - Transferred to grow bags March 27 - Moved to kiddie pool April 27 - First tassels May 3 โ First ears June 9 - First 'harvest' I now have a total of 16 plants with over 19 ears of corn in various growth stages with the smallest at 3โ and largest at 10. They were planted using different size grow bags as an experiment. Did you know that each kernel of corn develops only when pollen lands on that silk strand? Learn something every day. I decided to help things along and I hand pollinated a few. -Some of the stalks have put on second ears! On March 24th, two additional seeds were started in the green 3-gallon bag (left side in image) that now has two healthy plants growing. Overall, germination is 99.9%. My seed pack contained 52 seeds with an expiration date of 06/2025 and I still have half a pack of seeds left to plant next year. This year was a test to see if I could, and what interferences I would be dealing with. I was pretty much warned that growing corn in this particular area of 9a would be extremely challenging due to intense sun, heat, high humidity, morning fog, fungus, aphids, bugs & insects, 4-legged scavengers, and maybe even 2-legged ones. Despite all this, the plants are green, healthy looking and are growing vigorously. The proximity to each other may not be my best set up for pollination, but next year will be better. Overall, the seeds have a good germination rate for the price and the harvested ears were sweet. 5 stars!

Taste good
This corn germinated fine and grew but corn was short and not well developed. Yes it was planted in a block that was 25 ft. By 25 feet so it should have pollinated fine.

Grew big and fast and tasty, as advertised
I planted 12 seeds in one of those seed starter lighted self-watering trays, about june 1st. I planted the best 8 plants outside about July 1st. I planted about 15 inches apart and kept them well watered and harvested them when the silks turned brown. I only had one dud plant, with the other 7 plants, over 6 ft. high and 8 inch corns as advertised, and got 8 long corns and 2 about 5 inch ears of corn. They were great tasting, sweet as advertised (SE hybrids, meaning sweet enhanced) Warning, they are not Heirlooms, so I couldn't save the dried seeds for replanting the next year. But I got the 200 seeds, so they would be plantable for 1-2 more years. I cooked them, not boiled, to retain their flavor, by cooking 2min. in my ninja pressure cooker, some with some leaves on, some with leaves off. And I tried cooking a few baking in oven at 350 for 35min. or so, leaves on, and that worked OK, just too slow cooking time. The germination rate was great and they grew fast and as large as the various corn types I've grown over the years. You just can't save the seeds of these hybrids, so I will plant some other corn seed next year that is a heirloom. Even so good, a deer eat most of only one ear, thank goodness, leaving me the others.

Germination Failure!
Do not buy!!! I have grown corn for 50 plus years and never had a worse germination failure like I had with Burpee's seeds. Tried to get a refund from Amazon who said to contact Burpee who said to contact Amazon. Very disappointed in both companies. Had ideal planting and growing conditions so the seed was plain and simple junk. Had 5 seeds out of 200 that came up.

Germinated well
It pretty much all came up. It's growing pretty well. I can't complain about that, considering that I've bought seeds before that didn't germinate at all. Never bought seeds from amazon before and didn't really have high expectations. I'm not going to wait for it to produce to rate it because corn is kind of hit and miss in my soil composition and climate regardless of variety. Hard clay soil which isn't very nutrient rich and summers which tend to not provide much rain until hurricane season, so like August; The year before last it even stayed dry right up until November (Didn't hurt my garden too much since I water it but I had some deer plots planted that dried up and died. kind of gave up on setting up permanent deer habitat after that tbh). And aside from the lack of rain, I've also got a weed problem that I've been fighting. I'm considering moving to raised beds in the future. Improving the native soil is just going to help the weeds grow. The alternative is to maybe cover the garden in plastic for a few years; but I'm like 5 years in on saving seeds at this point and if I miss two years my climate adapted seeds are gonna lose viability...

poor germination
Might have been lucky to get 50% germination. I soaked the seeds overnight in water and yet hardly any germination.
