Horst P. Horst
This is a well-made attractive book about the photographic legacy of Horst. The book is large and thick, it is also divided into chapters discussing the different stages of Horst's career.I haven't read the text yet, but each chapter is supplemented with a nice and large selection of photos. The photos are mostly full page with a mixture of b/w and color. They range from fashion shots, to some glamour portraits, touristic sights, and shots of natural plants. The selection of photos in the "nature" section is really nice but sadly all of it is in b/w which takes alot from the beauty of the plant patterns. There is also two fold-outs reproducing some vogue covers, but many of these appeared previously in the book Vogue Covers, published a couple of years ago.All in all this is a nice book and recommendable as the first monograph on Horst, but I think there was room for a wider selection given Horst's famed career. Also some of the b/w photos look slightly dark, and the last section about some male nude poses is not of much interest.

Viewing Horst is Never Dull.
Horst, remains one of the true Gold Standards, of High Fashion photography, and in that regard, this volume is superb.I highly recommend if you have missed the several previous volumes devoted to his work.

A great book let down by terrible reproductions
As a massive fan of Horst's work, I have to say that this monograph is a great disappointment. Certainly, the essays covering his life in Paris photographing couture, to his work in Britain, the male nudes and his colour work are all insightful and the selected images are interesting enough (including his last images taken in 1991); and while the section detailing his colour work for Vogue is impecabbly printed, the reproductions of his black and white images are quite simply atrocious. Compared to previous Horst monographs, these black and white images (making up the majority of the book) appear dark, flat and muddy, with next to no detail in the shadows and sadly do not do Horst's sophisticated technique and rich images justice.Had this been taken care of, this monograph would probably be the best survey of Horst's 60 year career because the essays and the selection of work truly is interesting, but ultimately the whole book is let down by the shoddy reprodcutions. I do hope they eventually re-release this book and take care of this, I'd be first in line to purchase it. Until then, I would say there are other Horst monographs out there that truly do his black and white work justice.
