Danielle Walker's Eat What You Love: Everyday Comfort Food You Crave; Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, and Paleo Recipes [A Cookbook] Review: FINALLY!!! Recipes I CAN eat and my family actually WANTS to eat!!! - First of all, eating any kind of special diet is hard. And an adjustment. It's a hard adjustment. Add in a husband raised on Southern cooking and 2 young kids and my autoimmune disorder and you have a family with very different expectations for what's on their plate. I have tried MANY different cookbooks as I've tried to clean up my health. But, I've also always prided myself on being a pretty great cook. It's my craft - I just ENJOY seeing others enjoy what I've made. But it's hard to see my family try to choke down offal and bone broth (standard AIP fare) on my behalf. I started to think my kids would never get to say, "My Mom makes the best..." which is a small price to pay if you're healthy, but it would still be nice to have everyone enjoy what you make. But this book.... this one.... I CAN eat the food in it and my family WANTS to eat it. Finally! Danielle Walker has young children and from the descriptions of the dishes in the book, she was raised on Campbell's Cream of Mushroom casseroles like SO many of us. She has worked really hard to try to emulate what a traditional home-cooked meal tastes like without compromising your health. There is also a make-ahead-and-freeze section. As I'm expecting Baby #3, I'm eager to start prepping for when the newest little one comes. I was worried that in those frenzied first few months I would have to relapse into unhealthy habits when well-meaning neighbors dropped a casserole off. Now I'll have some wonderful alternatives to enjoy without creating an autoimmune flare-up in the process! So if you are new to this diet, it may feel daunting at first like with any cookbook. There are many ingredients that are not on the standard American grocery list. But once you conquer that first grocery trip for arrowroot powder and ghee, you'll be in business! I stepped into this world 6 months ago and I feel better in every sense of the word. Eczema disappeared, thyroid function is improving, I can stay awake throughout the day and sleep well at night.... I'm a better wife, mother, daughter... life is just better when you're healthy. And when you have yummy food on your plate! In summary, I'm just grateful for this book! It's brought some normalcy back to our lives since I was diagnosed with my autoimmune disorder. I can't wait to try Celebrations next! Holidays are such a challenge when you have dietary restrictions -- it'll be great to be able to feel confident that you will make it through the holidays without relapsing AND everyone will truly enjoy what you are serving. Review: LOVE this! - I wish I would have bought this a LONG time ago! I had no idea what I was missing out on! I had a few other DW cookbooks, but hadn't gotten them all until recently I bought all the ones I didn't have. This one is hands down my favorite. If you were raised in a standard American household eating typical American food, but now can't have dairy, gluten, etc, you'll LOVE this cookbook! I couldn't believe it when I saw she had a recipe for Paleo Chicken n Dumplings!! My mom would make that when I was a little girl and this is such a comfort food for me. And this paleo version is the best. My husband (who grew up eating Indian food, and not much American) had never had Chicken n Dumplings but loved it so much! Anyway, you'll find SO many foods in here like sloppy joes, shepherds pie, fish sticks, chicken nuggets, biscuits and gravy (!!), breakfast donuts, a super yummy chicken salad, morning glory muffins, and the best pizza crust DW has published, yet! Oh and it has recipes for Butter Chicken and Naan, comfort foods my husband grew up with! I could go on and on, but hope you get the point (: This is a cookbook full of delicious paleo American classics, with a few foods from other cuisines that are super popular in American households. We've enjoyed so many of these meals so far, and I look forward to making many more in the months/years to come :)

My FAVORITE cookbook
I love comfort food. I love cozy warm to the belly food, but I usually feel completely miserable after. I have so many food intolerances, but I love comfort foods. This cookbook is a game changer. It is all of my favorite recipes that are now completely clean, and still DELICIOUS! The loaded potato soup is incredible. Chicken divan- amazing. Sheet pan fajitas- so good! The french dip sandwiches are the best I've ever had, and I have had many! Every recipe that I have tried has been incredible. I also live in a pretty small town with very limited resources, and have been able to easily come across all of the ingredients that are needed for each recipe. I cannot recommend this book enough. I work in a library, and every time someone checks out a paleo cookbook, I tell them about Eat What You Love. My kids have even loved every recipe that I've made. I do not understand the negative reviews about odd ingredients or not wanting to make things from scratch. This cookbook is written for people that have many food intolerances. These "odd" ingredients are every day staples in homes like mine. When there are so many foods that you can't have because they can make you very ill, you have to cook things from scratch. If you are lucky enough to not have these issues, then yeah, maybe this cookbook isn't for you. But it is full of recipes made with nothing but real ingredients. You won't regret spending the extra money on these ingredients, because your health will improve so much.

Lots of helpful alternative recipes in here with handy hints and tips to suit a myriad of diets linked to elimination. This one has lots of healthier alternatives to 'american style' favourites like donuts and corn dogs but also some basics stuff like nut milk and mayo.
