For under $20, I have to give these headphones 5 stars
I don't give 5 stars lightly, but this is about as good a deal as I've seen on headphones in a long time. I got these for a little under $16 (as Prime) and they were well worth that price. I do a lot of live sound work and I tried these because our videographer asked me for something low-end to monitor the audio feed I was sending him. He asked for "closed cans" because he wanted to isolate the feed from the ambient sound in the room. The Amazon description doesn't confirm that, so I went to the Sony site, which had them listed as "Closed supra-aural", so I took a shot. About the only negative thing I can say about these is that they are not true closed cup headphones, but with their noise canceling feature, they still served our purpose. The Amazon description is accurate, though lacking some information I would have liked to know up front. The answers to my questions were all pleasant surprises. The nicest surprise is that the 1/8" plug at the end of the cable is a 90-degree molded plug, with the typical crimp protection for molded plugs. If you work with as much live sound as I do, you know that 99% of all cable failures occur at the plug. The wires inside these cables are tiny, and repairing them is a major pain, so a failure usually means ditching the cable (or in this case, the headphones). A 90-degree plug goes a long way towards reducing the chance of failure because it keeps the cord in a low vertical profile to the jack it plugs into, and also reduces the amount of bend when the cable hangs down. The molded cover for the plug is slightly tapered where it meets the actual metal stem, which allowed it to fit securely into my iPhone jack without hitting the case. This is where I've seen many 1/8" plugs fail. Another pleasant surprise was that the cable, which is just under 4 ft long, has a nice, thick jacket, which can also be helpful in prolonging the life of the internal wires. The actual headphones were quite comfortable and light. These are "on the ear" phones because the cups are not large enough to be "over the ear", so if you need that level of isolation, these are not the ones for you. A few reviewers have mentioned the red band to help you quickly identify the right ear, but the headband also has a small "pimple" molded on the left side to help you identify the orientation by touch once you're wearing them. Not a big thing, but a nice touch. Audio quality was fine; especially for under $20. I often find the cheaper phones either over-accentuate bass (unnaturally), or are very bright. These seem to have a very accurate reproduction of the input. I was working with our videographer to chase down an annoying hum in the audio from the camera, and when we finally got it eliminated, he turned to me and said "These sound great. They'll do fine." Because I'm a bit obsessive about audio, I asked to hear, and they did sound just like the audio feed I was sending him. Since they aren't true isolation cups, I had to attribute the clean sound to the quality of the noise cancellation feature, since there was over 80db of ambient sound at the time. Keep in mind, these are less than $20. Some final tidbits for those who care about these things. The plug is a true 1/8" plug and it does NOT come with an adapter for 1/4" jacks. It also appears that the noise cancellation logic struggles when the input signal is low. This may be the "distant" or "muddy" sound cited by some other reviewers. I experienced the same thing with my initial tests before realizing the unit I had plugged into was actually sending a lower signal than normal. When I switched to other devices (including my iPhone) which put out stronger signals, the sound was crisp and clean. Some may also find the 4 ft cord a bit short, which would be true if you need to move around a stationary object while wearing them. For my specific need (in this case) or something like a mobile phone in your pocket, this is ideal because you don't have a lot excess wire swinging around. The unit also apparently has a lithium ion battery, but I did not see an obvious way to change it out. I'm sure this is to power the noise cancellation circuitry, so if it goes out, the cost of the battery will probably be about half the cost of replacing the headphones - and you'll probably have to tear them open to change it. Remember, $15. And finally, a curious statement printed on the back of the package: "If you use the headphones with WALKMAN that has a noise canceling function, the noise canceling function will not work." Curious, since Walkman is a Sony trademark. In conclusion, a great deal (in my opinion), with some nice touches. I've generally been happy with the Sony products I've used, but often found them a bit pricier than similar options. These headphones were a great value for the price.

Good headphones, good price.
I needed new headphones because my last pair (a different brand) started only to play in one ear which many headphones do to me since they take a lot of abuse from me. I've had these headphones since November 2011 and they still work perfectly fine. I use these daily for hours with my laptop and with my Zune during my commute. I find them comfortable and durable. My last headphones were too tight which made my ears sore after a while but these are just tight enough to stay on my head without hurting my ears. The cord is a perfect length. I can keep my zune in my pocket while I listen to music and the cord isn't too long or short. (about 48 inches long) The sound quality is decent, not professional quality obviously but not that horrible flat sound you get with many ear buds. I listen to a lot of music and these are perfect for my needs especially for the price. I turn my zune up to the max volume and the sound still sounds fine. Even if these eventually broke, I'd probably get another pair of these.

Thoughts of the MDRZX100's - 4 years later and still working great, despite USER error in use
Feb 2022 and I ordered a pair of the 100's from a seller and also (not saying 100% that it was trying to scam me ... they may just have gotten mixed up) got "bait and switched" ... 100% a pair of the 110's for double the typical price. I will be returning these ... even if they took 50% off or something ... this is not what I wanted (not trying to totally hate on the ZX110's by the way ..just to be clear Also despite getting these "used like new" ... they were just wrapped in a packing envolope and no box or whatever else that typically should come with these were included. -------------------------- Oct 2021 Update: Well ... my original pair from 2014 FINALLY is having issues enough to have me switch to one of my backup pair of the "100" (last part of model name/number) ... even after all these years, while not perfect and needing some patches where the top band started to crack ... and in a few (3 at least that I can remember, South Florida rain storms ... they were good until today ... the plug has been a little "wobbly" for awhile and now today no matter what I use them with ... only the right channel works ... I am still keeping them (maybe i can repair them when i get some soldering skills or something) but they had a long life and I am happy with them ... Even bought (and tested) another pair or two of the "110's" for when this time came. April 2021 Update: I am not going to say these are the best sound quality headphones ... especially since I always "EQ" what I am listening to ... but these headphones which I have only used one of a few pair I purchased of ... my first pair bought in 2014 ... with my older Sansa Mp3 Players and Rockbox third party firmware with the sound set "just right" ... is "perfect" for my going out and about use-case. I wouldn't want to be wearing $300 Sony MX-3's in triple digit heat indexs here ... and as far as that fix/break that I mentioned that was 100% my own fault ... it's still holding together ... sure they may not be the prettiest now and I did replace the earpads for about $8 in 2019... but these headphones which i am sure i got in a medium FL rainstorm or two if i remember correctly (as soon as it starts raining i try to completely cover them up) ... and both sides are still working fine and sounding good ... only thing I do is every so often i use some izop. alchohol and a q-tip to just wipe off the connector ... sometimes when one side of a pair of headphones starts acting up, it's just a dirty connector, so i like to keep that as clean as I can ... really i am not disappointed I got exra pairs years ago ... sometimes just paying the same amount for them that'd i'd pay for shipping in an order so i figured "why not get something and then have free shipping, for the same $$?" but really the original pair i nearly use daily ... i did NOT expect them to last this long ... I do admit i have a pair of the "110" model that broke within like a year or two, but I got use out of those ones too. June 2018 Update: I cant remember when i wrote this review but I assume that this review was on the first pair (note: I wouldn't have gotten more OR the X110 model that DOES sound better base wise, i admit, if I didn't like these) I bought of these in 2014. I may have already said this further in my review but the part where it folds DID break but that was 1000% MY fault for putting them down hard (I mean HARD... nothing like "lightly throwing them down" ) ... UNLIKE my earbuds that I gave up on years back that seem to go bad with BASIC wear after only a few months (if that long) .. THE PAIR in question even with the mentioned issues, play perfectly fine out of both sides and still sound pretty damn good ... I do admit the 110's sound better base wise but "would i recommend these?" YES I would... for the SAME price, you may as well go with the newer "110's " but if you can "find a deal" on these "100's" ... go for it and pick them up. These headphones are like Skechers sneakers... I have had issues in the past with different brands, but when i find a product/brand I can count on (like Skechers sneakers, OR these headphones) ... I never look at others. To be honest after my mistake of handling them bad, i am SHOCKED that even a few years after THAT happened, they still work no problem. one thing - i saw REALLY good deals on these headphones .. THAT is why I have more than one ... couldn't pass different deals up ----------------------------------------------- I do have to preference my review with "I love music and want my music to sound good, though I am no "Audiophile". I do have standards that if they sound bad, I will say it, though if something doesn't sound "perfect" I am not going to say "These stink!" Pros: Wiring: (note: I can't comment on the wiring inside) The wire from the plug to the headphones themselves seem ALOT thicker than anything I have had before, and when I do run into issues with durability, one of the key issues is the wires splitting somewhere. I cant see inside to judge the quality of the wiring as I said, though I do not think I am going to have that issue I just mentioned with these Sound Quality: The Sound Quality is decent, though its nothing that will blow you away. I think they sound better then the new Sony Earbuds ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007BY3OVU/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and even if they are not perfect, they sound alot better than those earbuds... it seems that the Base and Treble are more "balanced" with these. Considering the price of these, versus similar headphones that are AT LEAST triple the price... I can live with the sound quality. Thumbs up on Sound Quality Comfort: I will not lie and say these are the most comfortable headphones you will find, though they are not uncomfortable by any means. The earpads are decent though like all of the over the ear headphones I see like this (before I even considered buying these, when I clicked the link, I KNEW what I am about to say and still am happy I bought them anyway). The "covering" that touches your ears, is typical from what I have seen on Wireless headphones some people have hooked up to their TV sets, and to be honest, I have ALWAYS had that stuff "peal" off and fall everywhere, making a mess as well as meaning there is less padding on the ear piece itself. This is something, I am EXPECTING that to happen with these, so if it doesn't "great" .. .if it does, hopefully its not too bad, and I knew that when I decided on purchasing these UPDATE ON COMFORT: Well 2 days and alot of usage after I wrote this review initially, and I have to say these are shocking COMFORTABLE. Even without moving them a little bit, they are not like similar styles of headphones, that hurt my ears or pinched my head .. These (granted that I do not have them set "super tight" but just a "notch" higher so they are not "hugging my head". Even the earpads are not an issue at all and I even enjoy wearing these. Con: The one con , .. .no big deal. would be the typical foam earpads. I (say from wireless over the ear headphones) ALWAYS have PROBLEMS with this foam/ "fake rubber" covering flaking off over time and making a mess. Only time will tell if companies have improved that, though I am expecting to have the same issue. So far, I am very satisfied with these headphones. They are not perfect, but they are very good and while you may find similar "off-brand" ones to these, I have just had bad luck with "non-Sonys" not lasting long at all (as in about a week sometimes)...that effects my decision and if I had to pay a dollar or two more for these, I am HAPPY I did. If you're looking for a low cost, but decent quality headphones and are on the fence with these (considering trying them), I would say "go ahead" and order them.

cant beat this kind of quality for this kind of price!
i had previously purchased a set for my son (in white) about a year ago over summer break, they needed headphones for class that needed to be left at school to be used during testing and other such activities (each kid must bring their own for personal use not to be shared) so we were at the outlet malls in aurora last summer and during some shopping at the sony store we got them for him in white to match his school macbook. needless to say that they are still in great shape! he is only 6 and the fact that they are for 1. still functioning and 2. still in one piece and 3. have great audio quality he is very happy with them. it just so happens that during christmas break he and my kids recieved kindles from santa and lets just say multiple noise levels were getting on my nerves. the headphones that we had purchased during summer were left at school and he is not allowed to bring them home for fear that he could come back to school without them. so here we go on amazon to look for something affordable and we find these! needless to say i had to purchase them again!!! we got two pairs this time around one for each of our kids, the sound quality is very good and they were more affordable then what i had to pay for at the sony store both of our kids really do love them and now i dont have to put up with noise from either of their kindles when they are allowed to play. i must admit that even my husband and i like them when were on the computer listening to music or surfing you tube or catching up on our favorite episode online lol and for the price i know that if they break or get damaged its not putting a big dent in my wallet. ofcourse there is aways those really expensive beats or bose heaphones but i would not spend my money on those unless they were to improve my DJ-ing carreer hahahaha. so if you are looking for good audio that wont dent your wallet you can always count on these sony headphone to deliver. + they have a manufacturer warranty too. so if their defective they can get replaced or repaird im thinking this will be very usefull on our roadtrip to texas this coming summer!!

Luke-warm Quality, but worth it for free shipping
The Good: Very light weight, fits very well over tall hair. The cord is nice and long so you can sit back and relax while listening to music. VERY good bass. The cord is very well made; round, about 3/16" thick, substantial "L-shaped" plug. The Neutral: These headphones seemed to only put out 75% of the sound. I turned up the master volume on my laptop and it was deafening coming from my small laptop speakers, but when I plugged in these headphones and put them on, the sound was was noticeably more muted. I guess that's a good thing, you will not go deaf listening to these headphones. There was a little bit of sound-leakage with the volume at 100% (which is to be expected). The Bad To call these 'noise-cancelling' is a joke. If you a fan on in your house you'll hear it as much as you hear the music coming through the headphones with the volume up (depending on what kind of music). The overall quality of the sound is muddy. Verdict: If you are accustom to using ear-bud headphones, these will be a step down, yet they are more comfortable. After I bought these headphones I tried them out with different types of music (classical, rap, R&B, rock, horror-core, and more) They performed okay overall, I'd give them a C+. If you are really in the market for very good quality headphones, go to place like Radio Shack. I had an employee there offer to actually let me try out a couple different pairs in the store before I purchased them. Not sure if they do that everywhere, but kudos to them!

Durable...
There are many reviews out there discussing the audio quality of these, so rather than go that route I will explain why I I think these are the best. These are used mostly by my 3 kids during car trips for iPad's and portable electronics to not disturb each other or my wife and I. They mostly are playing games, but they do listen to music on them. I have 4 or 5 pair of both the white and black ones that are used both in the car and inside - they have been thrown, dropped, pulled, bitten, drooled on, stepped on, sat on, hit, etc by a 8, 5 and <2 year old (all boys) and they are all still working perfectly. Don't mistake though, these are plastic and they are breakable, but I have been pleasantly surprised at how well the ear pieces and cords have held up - again not a single failure of any sort at my house in about 2 years of use on the earlier ones. These are great for kids. They fit snugly on their smaller heads, overall they are not large and heavy, the ear pieces are very soft and feel good on your ears, the cords are very flexible yet they are large enough they don't get tangled at all, and the plug at the end is a 45 degree connector so it will lay near what it's plugged into thus reducing the chance of stress damage during usage. I also like that the right side is marked with a red ring rather than a R and L which seems to be easier for the kids. Finally I use these sometimes when watching movies on the iPad when trying not to disturb others, and also some light podcast for video editing on the computer. As others note the audio quality isn't necessarily up to audiophile standards however it's perfect for the casual listener that isn't willing to pay $50 or $100. I would suggest these for anyone that needs something for their kids.

Quality earphones for a cheap price
Contrary to some of the reviews, I found these headphones comfortable after hours of wear. The sound quality is clear and loud. The bass is deep but not obnoxious to point where you find it irritating. For the sound quality, you get more than what you paid for. I was suspicious at first because 15$ is cheap for headphones but I was not let down. These are not noise cancelling headphones but it blocks most of the noise around you. The appearance is clean and simple. The band is nice and sturdy and you can adjust the size accordingly. The sides are glossy with a silver SONY on each side. Although I was turn off by the bold red at first, it's helpful when I don't want to be bothered with reading which side is which. In all, I think these headphones are worth the money but if you're looking for supreme sound quality and has the ability to cancel out noise, I suggest you look somewhere else. I only bought these headphones because of the appearance...so if you're looking for a decent pair of headphones that looks pretty, I highly recommend this one.

Great Headphones (for 3.5 years)
I go through headphones very quickly (three or four pairs in the last year). I've had these for a week, and they've been excellent (I have high-hopes for their lifespan). Pros: > The speakers can swivel and rest flat. Last week, I worked parking cars in a large field lot, and could listen to music without having to compromise my hearing. > Despite being able to use them as small neck-speakers, they are also very loud when worn over the ears without having to be turned up all the way. The sound-quality when wearing them is clear and even works with bass-heavy* songs. > Sturdy design. The cord, the sliding head-pieces, and the earpieces themselves; all seem to be made out of durable well-put-together materials. I've yanked and tripped and smashed them and they're still in excellent shape. Cons: > Because the ear-pieces rotate flat (and only in that one direction), storage is limited to "flat" rather than any other position. But, really, that's probably the better storage position anyway. > Sleek, white, "modern" design means that any dirt, or wear, is immediately visible (but I knew that when I ordered them). Overall: Great pair of reasonably priced headphones. *These are not bass-heavy headphones, and don't act as such. You still can't get the clarity of bass that you would with higher-quality (and considerably higher-priced) headphones, or speakers (with a subwoofer). But for what they are: I'll take it! EDIT (4 months later): >>I haven't scuffed these, and it's been over 4 months now - so my "con" about them being all sleek and white has been debunked. >>I walked around in a rainstorm with these, and they still work fine (I was a bit concerned). >>The covering over the ear-pads has ripped around the inside speaker. This hasn't bothered functionality, but I fear it means they will deteriorate faster than I had wanted. EDIT (1/27/2015 - Approximately 2.5 years later): >>These are still working excellently, and I've wandered around in heavy rainstorms on multiple occasions, and the minor ripping around the inside of the ear-pads has not gotten any worse. Absolutely worth the price! EDIT (1/29/2016) - Approximately 3.5 years later): >>These have finally given up the ghost. The right speaker went out, and I'm really sad, because I'd really grown accustomed to them. Anyway, I'd highly recommend these for casual listening.

One word, Invincible.
Back in 2014 I bought a pair of these headphones on sale at a hmv. Back then I didn't think too much of it, it was just after Christmas and I was looking for some new headphones for my computer and or phone. It is now 2020 and I still have that same pair of headphones. I have dropped them. Thrown them. They have been through hell and back. They still work. They still have the same great quality and sound just as good as they did back when I first got them. Just really goes to show how good of a product they made. The only reason I purchased a new pair of these was because after years and years of use I put them through. Eventually the earmuffs started deteriorating. Leaving grey flakes all over the place and just being ripped up in general. I decided that I should probably either upgrade or do something about it. Rather than getting a new pair of headphones, or literally anything else. I bought a new pair of them, replaced the muffs from the new one onto the old one. And bam, like brand new. I would have otherwise used the new ones but because I have had the old ones for so long they were already broken in and fit perfectly to my head. Would I recommend these? Absolutely. They are near invincible. In a age where technology usually doesn't last more than a year or things become out of date. These reliable headphones are still my choice when it comes to music, gaming, and anything I can use them for.

The best purchase I've ever made on this site
Throw away those annoying, cheap earbuds and just get this. It'll be the greatest purchase you've ever made for less than thirty bucks. The audio quality is amazing (get out of here, beats). The build quality is fantastic. I put it in my backpack sometimes, scrambled with all my other rigid belongings. Sometimes I fear that I'll take it out and the plastic will be chipped somewhere, but after all this time, IT JUST NEVER HAPPENED. It's just too well-built. Also, the cord is very thick and durable (not some skimpy earbud cord that easily gets worn out at the ends). I have a bad habit of chewing on cables when I'm looking at the computer (weird, I know), however this cord has easily withstood the test of my gnawing after all these months. You can't even find a mark. There's a little raised dot right above one of the earpods so you know which side is left and which is right, so that's a bonus. It fits snugly on my head. The only possible complaint you could have is if you think it is a bit too tight on your head after wearing for several hours. It's the most minor of annoyances really, and might just be my imagination. Nevermind being so cheap. If you sold this to me for $100, I wouldn't even feel robbed.
