ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential - Energy Star Certified programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat - Works with Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant

We bought this thermostat because we moved into a two-story house and I wanted to be able to control the temperature from the upstairs bedroom. Our thermostat controller is located downstairs. This works perfectly. While I am upstairs, I can control the temperature using my smart phone and it is so easy to use. Installation was not difficult. This is a quality product, I love the look of it, it's sleek and modern and It is well-made with a good price point, and I highly recommend it.

Great thermostat! Easy to install, even with my not having a C wire coming out to my thermostat. There was a kid I had to buy, but very easy to get it going. My previous thermostat was a nest, first GEN. It received a firmware update that stopped it from being allowed to talk to my phone and also caused it to start sending error codes to my furnace. This was confirmed by a technician at my home. I was worried that I’d have to buy a new furnace that I had something major wrong, but it was just the firmware update on my old nest thermostat. This ecobee is wonderful! Also, from everything I can tell it sounds like ecobee does not send firmware update updates that disable the thermostats for any generation thermostat. I have an HVAC system with heat air and fan. Everything works great! I love that. It works well with Alexa too.

Easy to install and Ecobee customer support was wonderful with how I needed to wire it. They provided on the phone support and walked me through the entire installation even testing the system. The Essential does the same as the others basically but does not include the sensor nor air quality monitor. It was replacing a basic non programable Honeywell (cheap) that did have a c wire. The compatibility of the wiring was a little different than this one but customer support walked me through the changes. The temperature control is so easy to control from the wall or the app on your smart phone. Wifi is needed but stays connected all the time with no issues. I will purchase a 2nd one. We have had these before in another home and loved them. I misplaced my 2 sensors so not able to control certain rooms just yet but the past experience they work perfectly.

Switched to Ecobee after Google decided to not continue supporting older Nests making my thermostat some more e-waste ("Don't be evil," they used to say). Anyway, hoping Ecobee doesn't choose to do the same sort of nonsense in a decade with this one. Install was easy--had to get the power converter, but directions for both were easy and I got it up and running in about 1 hour. Setup was pretty painless. Overall pretty happy with the product so far. I like the reporting function and the app is pretty solid. The only concerns I have so far are that this model doesn't have the sensors to detect when you leave the house to go into "Eco" mode. 99$ for an addon to give it that functionality. Not sure I'm going to invest becase it seems that it takes 2 hours for the adjustment to initiate (not sure if that is configurable). Also they seem to be IR detectors--not sure about whether my dog will frustrate that functionality sleeping while we're out. Geofencing works easily with android, but iphones need you to set up homekit on something or other. Not sure why this is--maybe apple phone security is tighter than android, but if you want use the geofencing with more than one person this might be awkward.

I have been using the ecobee smart thermostats for maybe 8 years now. I find them to be very reliable and I really like the optional extra remote sensor that you can place in different rooms. Using them seem to get an more average temperature from around your house instead of just on the thermostat itself. Anyway, I have installed them in a few friends house and they are very handy when you are away from home and can adjust them with your smartphone. This particular one, I ordered for my friends winter home so that they can monitor and control the thermostat remotely throughout the year when they are away. I like the fact that it integrates nicely with Amazon Echo and you are able to control the thermostat via voice. Which is nice when you are a tad bit warm or cold and you want to adjust the thermostat a without getting out of bed in the middle of night. I use Amazon Echo to ask what the temperature on the thermostat is or what the thermostat is set to. This is definitely worth upgrading your home with a smart thermostat. I have had other smart thermostats but none of them have lasted as long as my Ecobee's.

I bought this after Google lobotomized my Nest thermostat late last year. Happy they did, because I like the Ecobee better - similar ease of use but more features. I won't be going back to the Nest. My Nest used 4 wires, and the Ecobee needs 5 (it needs the C terminal connected). Ecobee sells a wiring kit as a fix for this if you only have 4 wires, however before you spend money on that, check to see if your thermostat cable has extra conductors. The wire in my 30+ year old house has 8 conductors, 4 unused, so I was able to connect an unused conductor to the C terminal on the Ecobee, and splice it down at the furnace control board. An easy fix that saved some money.

I bought this to replace a two year-old model from the other smart thermostat company that the manufacturer decided would no longer be supported. That meant the most important thing that I purchased it for, to be able to monitor and control my HVAC when I was away from my home, would be virtually useless. This new ecobee unit was less expensive than that one was, and blows it away technologically and aesthetically. It integrates better with Alexa , and is dramatically easier and more intuitive to adjust on the unit itself. The iOS app is much slicker as well. The ecobee unit displays the humidity on the face of the unit, and the app has some really nice historical reports that are easy to get to and very easy to decipher. I am an ex-Air Force avionics tech, 35 year commercially rated pilot/flight instructor, and 15 year statewide telecom supervisor retiree. It ain’t easy to impress me with tech, this unit checks all the boxes.
