Great value and I love that you can view the readings anywhere via the website
I had read the reviews before I purchased this and a lot of people said it was very difficult to setup... Personally I did not find it difficult at all but I am a web developer so the technologies make sense to me. I followed the instructions provided with the product and got all three sensors connected. I can understand why some people would have trouble though because you do have to connect to the main display at one point via an ip, much like you do for a router. I would recommend that anyone who is not tech savvy follow their instructions as closely as possible. If you don't understand a step then maybe reach out to support, it's worth the effort! All that aside, I love the functionality this provides! I use the app on my phone to monitor things when I'm not home and I can also view the web page from anywhere. I get texts when the temperature drops a certain amount. I use the sensors for different bonsai so it's important each is kept within a certain range and the automatic notifications are a life saver. There are no hidden fees or subscriptions for any of this either. Buy this thing, it's worth way more than the price tag!

Not total junk....but pretty close
Right out of the box we had problems setting this up. The instructions are quite obtuse and the URL listed to download the latest full manual returned a 404 Not Found error. The various buttons on the console are so poorly placed that during setup it's very difficult to press and hold one button without accidentally hitting another button on the opposite side. We never did see the the console status LED flash cyan (or any color for that matter) while it was searching for sensors. The unit does not hold it's settings. During setup, after entering the correct time and date, upon exiting, the unit regularly didn't keep one of the settings you had just put in. And we are unable to ascertain what calendar they are using. It isn't the Gregorian or Julian calendar as today, 2025.01.01, it says it's Saturday and not Wednesday. And now the Max/Min records for one of the sensors (the outdoor one) is busted showing a Max/Min temperature range of only 15ยฐ F with the current temp being 10ยฐ outside and above it. So I have lost the record setting 101ยฐ temp we experienced this past summer. Meanwhile the Max/Min humidity range is showing 99%-0% when the lowest humidity has only been 22%. So overall I have to say this product is not worth the $140 we paid for it. It's totally unreliable.

Easy to set up easy to use
Iโm using this to monitor several temperatures at a second home in a very cold location to monitor freezing conditions. This is the perfect solution as I can access both the current and history for several points inside and outside of the home to make sure the temperature does not get so cold as to freeze and damage the pipes. The price for this includes the remote web access โฆ all you need is a wifi access point. Awesome product!

Good unit, but needs better set up and troubleshooting instructions
All of the remote sensors associated with this monitoring station are no longer transmitting data. I installed this unit in our summer home, with remote sensors in the garage, on a screened porch (in a protected area), and in the enclosed crawl space. The base unit is transmitting data without a problem, but the remote units are no loner transmitting. All other WiFi devises (video, freezer and water alarms) in our summer house are transmitting just fine. I don't plan to return until Spring or summer and will not have the peace of mind in knowing that the garage and crawl space heaters are doing their job and keeping areas warm enough to keep the water pipes from freezing. This monitoring station has proven to be unreliable. I'll be testing the warranty when return. EDIT: After returning to our summer house, I tried unsuccessfully to reset the WS-8482 by using the information available online and with the instructions that came with the unit. After a couple of frustrating hours I called Ambient and was connected to a technician who very quickly walked me through the steps necessary to reset the unit, which then worked perfectly. The information provided by the technician was not in any of the materials, both online or in print. Ambient needs to do a better job in providing the consumer with documents or videos regarding setting up and or troubleshooting the WS-8482. My suggestion is that if you have set up or troubleshooting issues with your WS-8482, call Ambient before you frustrate yourself and waste a lot of time.

Good Range, Moderate setup, Limited mount without creativity
Great so far! Was worried about distance as this is for my new greenhouse but the console picked up the wireless no problem at over 175ft (MeshWireless router). Picture is from the house, looking to the greenhouse for distance reference. The signal is pretty low out there and I tried testing other devices with variable success so I am quite excited that it is having zero connection issues! Regarding install, Do you have to read through a pamphlet of directions and follow some steps? Yes. Is this difficult? Not in my opinion. And you should only need to do it once, as it comes with a coin battery to keep the settings if the power is out. But it is a little tedious, particularly when you get to connect your wireless network, but just follow the steps. If you forget to write down the MAC address, it is on a sticker on the back of the console. The directions fail to indicate this. Regarding distance from console to sensor, I brought one sensor and the console to the greenhouse. The other 2 sensors are sitting in the living room near a window, one is communicating with the console, the other has a cardboard box blocking it and the console is unable to detect it. So as described in the product details, any obstruction in line of sight (including cardboard) will lower working distance. My only negative comment is that I wish the sensors had a hole in them for hanging. They only have the wall mount screw hole on the back and are otherwise solid plastic. I fashioned a hanger purse like strap to each for my application, but certainly would have been nice to instead thread a piece of wire through for non wall mount applications. Update: (orig review 02/21) November 2023, changing batteries in sensors for 1st time per low battery notification in app. Still working great!

Takes a little to get set up but works great
It took me about 20 minutes to get through the set up instructions and get everything synced but once I did these seem to be working great! I have several chest freezers that I have to be sure won't go out on me and I'm out of town a lot. This is awesome to keep an eye on everything and if a freezer we're to go out I can make sure I'm back before the temps worm up too much. The only thing I don't like it that only one person can check into the account. I'm having trouble getting anyone else to be able to check in. There is a link you can follow to see the dashboard but the monitors don't show up for anyone but me and it's a hassle to log on. I wish this process was easier so my employees can also help me keep an eye one things when I'm not there.

It's my own fault
I have such remorse about this purchase. For my purpose it was an expensive bust. I was replacing a 5-year-old Ambient unit in our main bedroom with colorful backlit numbers whose OEM remote sensor with humidity fell behind a wall outside where I can't retrieve it and the battery is dying a slow death. This 8482-X3 unit has very poor viewing angles. The display cannot be read from across the room without backlighting, and when the backlighting is on it cannot be seen from above, below or to the sides ... only straight-on. So at night with it on the dresser, it's just a glowing yellow rectangle with no visible numbers. I also didn't notice it doesn't have barometric pressure and the time display is very tiny. I work in IT, so I didn't find the setup at all difficult as long as I stuck exactly to the detailed instructions. The sensor distance is good for my purposes, even with thick walls. It's a good unit, but I'll end up having to put this station in another room and buying yet another for the bedroom. I chose poorly. Consider your use-case carefully before purchasing.

Not at all worth the money
Will not connect to my router/WiFi. Instructions refer to settings that are not there or labeled differently than I am finding. Will not sync with Alexa, probably because of lack of connectivity to my Wi-Fi. As like several other basic Ambient Weather stations, you have to place batteries in a certain order to get the sensors to sync with the receiver. If you need to unplug or reset the base unit, all remote sensors must re-sync by opening them and pulling and replacing the batteries. I've had several Ambient basic weather stations and have purchased many more basic hygrometer/sensors, and although this should be more "high tech" than the others due to the cost, it's no more than an accurate stand alone indoor thermometer.

Great product ! Not so hard to setup
I had read the reviews before buying so I knew that I should read the notice properly to setup the device, especially the wifi and web part. I am sort of a tech guy so maybe it helps because you need to understand IP address, MAC address, etc... However If you follow the process as described in the notice (english only) it is really straight forward and it works great. There are no extra explanation, but all the steps are there. Be patient. Follow the instructions. It works great.

Impossible instructions and set up
The customer service is terrible, they do not return messages. The instructions do not work in helping you set up the WIFI so I basically have three temperature readings but not hooked up to my WIFI, which was the reason I purchased this item. Other reviews say that when they spoke to Customer Service there was an easy fix to setting up the WIFI but when you can't speak to Customer service they are not much help.

When it works it works but sensors are not picked up half the time
I bought this product to monitor temps in my outbuildings, (barn, chicken coop, greenhouse, shop) I put lithium batteries in the sensors and when humidity is lower sensors appear to be connected when humidity rises the devices lose connection with the base unit, so I can't actually monitor what I need to. I contacted the company last April and we did some back and forth and after I gave them my order info I didn't hear back. Overall not happy with the device or customer service. I ignored the bad reviews that complained about set up, and I did have no issue setting the units up but they just don't seem to work as advertised. Currently only the base sensor is showing in the app when earlier today I saw one of the others online. Units are not too far apart because when humidity is lower and temp higher they show as online. They seem to drop offline at around 6ยฐC / 80% humidity
