How does it compare to a Blue Snowball?

It's.... a 'fine' microphone, but you'll be better off with the blue snowball. If nothing else the quality control on it will be much higher.

Does it come off it’s tripod? What size thread does it have if so?

Yes it screws off of the tripod. I don't know what the size is but it's too large to fit on another desktop tripod that I have. It does, however, fit on my microphone stand that you would put on the floor/stage.
