Once I dug into that book, and I was shocked on how much information is not in that book and I couldnt find it any where else.

What a great resource. Print is a little small for my old eyes and some of the pictures could be clearer but overall this is well worth the cost if you like to do your own work.

Pleasantly surprised that this came with nice semi-hardback binding, as opposed to all the other Bentley manuals I have that are soft cover. Essential for folks working on their own Boxsters, and good background even if you won't ever do your own work.The content does not replace the factory Porsche service information, but is very helpful for the areas it covers well. In some ways this is much better, but it is not comprehensive.Best areas covered are includes basic maintenance, dropping the automatic transmission (ZF 15HPFL triptronic), electrical/wiring detail reference. The diagnostic code listing is slightly better than usual, giving most probable cause for each code.Would be helpful to have all torque ratings listed in one table, but instead these are scattered through the procedures.Bentley manuals generally don't give the part numbers for sub-assembly items. So, obtaining needed parts involves "external searching". Similarly, many procedures refer to Porsche specialty tools, even when these are fairly trivial to "cover" with standard tools; usually it is not economic to buy these tools unless servicing Porsche cars is your profession.

Bentley books are the benchmark on books to do maintenance.

Perfect for the do it yourselfer

Reviewing a manual like this is difficult because, hopefully, none of us will have need to read and use most of it -- it's not like a novel you read cover to cover.That said, I've found this manual to be a good compromise between the Boxster owner's manual and the full set of Porsche shop manuals. Things I've found useful so far include: proper jacking and setting of jack stands, torque specs, how to access the engine bay from the top, etc. My car is a 2004 Boxster S.I currently am having a problem with the Litronic lights on my car and have found this manual somewhat lacking in diagnosing the problem. Given that the symptoms are the same for both lights, I suspect the Litronic control unit is the problem, but this is not mentioned in the section on these lights. I found it looking through the circuit diagrams and the abbreviations list. While I would like more diagnostic information, I suspect the standard diagnostic approach requires attachment of a Porsche maintenance tool.I would certainly recommend this manual.

A comprehensive service manual. I find it an excellent central source of information when performing repairs or maintenance on a Porsche Boxster. It is well illustrated, organized into logical sections, and generally laid out in an easy to use manner. I have found that on occasion information found on the internet provides excellent supplemental material to help with repairs. This information is found on Boxster forums. Given the price of servicing a Porsche at a dealership, I have already paid for this manual many times over. On one occasion I was quoted over $4000 in repairs for a check engine light that I repaired by myself for $120 in parts. The dealer misdiagnosed the needed repairs specifying the replacement of both catalysts and two O2 sensors. It simply took the replacement of one O2 sensor bought on ebay to eliminate the check engine light and pass smog testing. It certainly cast a shadow on the integrity of this particular dealership. For a Boxster out of warranty, owning this manual is nearly essential in avoiding being overcharged for repairs.

If you own a Boxster 986 generation then you need this book in order to keep your car in fine fettle.A bible for home maintenance

This is a good book and the best out there other than internet forums but I'm disappointed that there are no 1997 wiring diagrams and the early 97 model has some significant differences from the 98 model, like an 8 pin locking latch plug.

Purchased to be able to work on the car myself with the confidence and knowledge this book gives, very good manual and worth the money, I also purchased 101 projects as well to go along with it and I’m very happy I did.
