The mesh pockets on the sides are good for water bottles smaller than 1L though you can ...
I bought this backpack to train for hiking which I've never really done before. I'm a big guy: 6'4" 300lbs.I have been taking this pack for the past year and a half on weekly on 6 - 8 mile day hikes (2.5 to 4 hours) with a full load: Poncho-tarp, hammock, paracord, backpacking stove, fuel, mess kit, food, up to 3L of water, change of cloths, toiletries, 2nd pair of shoes, first aid kit, compass, map, phone, monocular, bug spray, sun screen. There's still room for smaller items in the external pockets and is where I keep my smaller items. The internal compartments are most full with what the larger items I've inventoried here. The mesh pockets on the sides are good for water bottles smaller than 1L though you can get some skinnier & taller 1L bottles in them with a little work.I have not used the external straps to carry a sleeping back and pad, yet though I'm considering them for such. The waist strap is a little too small for my girth but I believe I can solve that easily. It is a bit too high, however. I wear my pack slightly low on my back. If I were to wear it as high as I suspect others would, the waist strap would be about mid-abdomen on me, but I do have a tall body.I've hiked over 450 miles with this pack and it has held up well. It looks almost new. The reason I wrote this review is because I've read some reviews indicating poor quality. I don't find that to be the case, however, I also don't treat the pack roughly.Overall, I'm pleased with this pack, it's compartmentalization, the quality of the material and construction. It's a great day pack and has enough room to be used for overnight camping.Edit: I've been able to add even more to this pack. No doubt it's firmly in the day pack category, but it can be a overnight/2 day pack. I would use it for some light duty camping. Using the side straps I've been able to tack on a 40F top quilt & under quilt. Bottom strap is being used for a tarp. I still have plenty of room in the top and mid-pockets. There's still enough room in the main compartment for a couple of day's worth of food, some water and change of clothing. And I even discovered that the chest strap latch has a built in whistle. Although it's a tiny thing it is loud. This is a well thought out and well built pack. I would definitely recommend it.

UPDATE 11/14
UPDATE***Finally took this on my FIVE day trip to Berlin that I purchased it for. Used this bag as my carry on through 5 flights and didn't use it once while I was there. Bottom two straps to hold a blanket ripped right off during the 4th flight and the thread at some seams are loosning. Returned :/I just received this in the mail so I haven't been able to test it out yet. However, there seems to be more than enough room and the pockets are genius!! Only downside is the picture makes the khaki look like a beige/tan khaki but in real life it has a slight green tint to it making it look a bit like vomit coloring :/

Great bushcraft pack
I'm really excited about this pack. It has all the features I need in a bushcraft pack. I haven't had a chance to take it out into the woods, but here are my observations thus far.Pros:Plenty of space and pockets! The bottom "shoe" pocket is actually a zipped off part of the main compartment. So you can easily access things at the bottom of your pack or keep things separated from the compartment above. The middle pocket, though it looks small, is actually quite roomy. And the top pocket has a small divider - it doesn't reach all the way to the top of the pocket. Time will tell if that's good or bad.Lined with water resistant (proof?) material. Looks like it'll keep things dry during a light drizzle.Comfortable to wear. The back is firm and padded enough, and the weight is distributed well.Price. For the price, the quality is great. I'm interested to see how the bag will hold up to wear.Cons:The bedroll strap came unstitched almost immediately upon strapping on my sleeping pad. Amazon (and the seller) quickly issued a return label, UPS pick up, and are sending a replacement bag. I'll inspect the next bag carefully and am sure it was a defect, but I decided to deduct a star regardless.Headphone jack. Hear me out (hah). I don't use corded earbuds or headphones (I'd rather use bluetooth). The hole in the top of the bag is just asking for leaks.Chest clip seems low, but I was able to adjust it comfortably.

You get what you pay for with this bag
It is a good size for weekend or even week-long trips if you pack light. I've had this bag for about 4 months and several straps have already fallen off, I am concerned that it will not last the year. The separated compartments inside are really handy, as well as top and bottom entry an the external pouches. I really like the design, I just wish the build quality were better.

Not very heavy duty
bag is great in regards to size and comfort, but it is built rather poorly... I have had the bag for one month now, and there have been two straps that have ripped- one at the seams connecting it to the backpack, and the other was one of the straps at the tent pouch, that could not withstand the weight of a 20 ounce water bottle on it! My guess is that soon I'll be wearing straps made of duct tape. Very cool pack for a very good price, but the quality is very much reflected. Not worth the $40 on the basis of it's poor quality
