Clear explanations, lacking examples
I bought this book to help me study for the CLEP exam with no previous knowledge of microeconomics.PROS: It's very clear.CONS: It would be better with more examplesIt doesn't define every term (despite the glossary in back)It doesn't explain the graphs enoughNonetheless, because the book did a good job of explaining the concepts, I was able to correctly answer most of the practice test questions after having read the book only once, without memorizing the formulas. (Of course, I might just be extra smart)I am buying another book to make sure I know everything I need to know, but if you already learned the material and need a quick, concise review, this is definitely the book for you.

Not for begginers
I took Macroecenomics for my Business Admin minor and bought this to CLEP to get into MBA. I figured it would be a breeze with my background. It is a great book because it is very technical so I used it after buying another book that explained things better.

Solid review
I had already taken a macroeconomics course prior to this and I knew there was a decent amount of overlap both in content and in the critical thinking skills. So this was a good guide. But if you've never taken either Macro or Micro, or if it's been a while, then this guide is probably not going to be comprehensive enough.

Very Helpful Resource
Having just taken the Microeconomics CLEP test yesterday I can give a review of this book and CD. I bought the book several months ago and found the reading to be difficult. If you don't know a lot about the subject I don't think this book will be enough - at least it wasn't for me. The first test from the CD I took was very difficult and I didn't pass. The best thing I did was get the Economics for Dummies book and read the 150 page section on microeconomics. The material covered everything that the CLEP exam will test you on and the reading, while longer, is easier to understand and assimilate. Another good source of information is a website called Instacert, which charges $20/month and has lots of good info on the subject. After finishing the Dummies book I took the second practice test and got a scaled score of 55 (50 is passing) and decided to give the real test a shot the next day. I managed to pass the CLEP coinicidentally with the same 55 score.I think that this book is essential to people who have little background in the subject matter like me. What I found more helpful than the text were the two sample tests. The great thing about them is that they give detailed explainations of each question, so if you miss one you get some extra instruction about what you need to know. Just keep in mind that you don't need to ace the test, just score a solid C and collect your credits, so there's no reason to study too hard for this test. All told, I probably spent 15-20 hours reading and taking practice tests. My best advice is to buy this one and the Dummies book. Good luck!

Good test questions, but almost incomprehensible explanations.
I took the Microeconomics CLEP test and I was surprised at how simple the test was when compared to this study guide. When I first began my study, I was really frustrated because I wasn't understanding anything that was being said. I thought that I had forgotten everything I had learned back in High School, but really it was because the language was so dense and unhelpfully full of acronyms. However, the review questions were really helpful in targeting what I had mastered and what still required some work. There are a lot of questions that I couldn't figure out why I had gotten the question wrong, even after going back and reading the (once again, incomprehensible) explanations, so I had to consult a lot of external sources. If you can recognize where you fall short, go ahead and use the internet. The explanations will be much more user-friendly.My suggestion to any serious studier is that you also use the official CLEP study guide before actually taking the exam. It will be a better gauge of whether or not you are prepared for the real exam. I was averaging 45-50/80 on these exams, but on the actual CLEP I got 67/80.

Refresher, Not All-You-Need
Personally, I was not as impressed with REA's CLEP Principles of Microeconomics book as I have been with other REA CLEP books in the past. I found that the review of microeconomics was just that--a review, not something you could pick up without a former knowledge of microeconomics and pass the exam. I ended up going onto the CLEP website and reading a textbook they recommended, because there simply wasn't enough information in the book to know what was going on. However, if someone had a background in microeconomics, this would be a great refresher. The practice tests were great, although I wondered if in a few places they had the wrong answer (probably, though, I just didn't understand what they were saying). My one complaint about the answers is that they don't tell why the wrong answers were wrong. You just know that they can't be right because the answer that they write about is the right answer.Overall, it's a good book for preparing for the CLEP exam, but you will probably need another textbook as well.
