Stunning value for money, but...........
I'm giving this 5* mainly on a value for money basis - at less than £1 per episode, what's not to like! However, there are a few snags. The 6 discs are simply stacked on a single spindle and proved quite difficult to get out - have fixed this by rehousing them in Tesco jewel cases. The episodes are not in the same running order as the "first broadcast" dates. Dutch subtitles are fixed on 3 episodes (as covered by other reviewers) and the switchable ones didn't respond to my Panasonic BluRay player's remote but could be switched off by the remote from my old Panasonic VHS/DVD combo! They were also switchable on my PC. On my set, only "play all" would start the disc playing and if wanting to see just the second episode had to skip through or fast wind to end of the first episode. Actual film/sound quality is fair but obviously not HD! Very speedy delivery.

Wonderful
Absolutely love this, I was a bit worried when I saw the cover of the box set was in what looks like German, I was afraid the language would be in German, but it's not. The subtitles aren't in English, but you just need to switch the subtitles off, and you are able to watch the marvelous Joan Hickson in the perfect role for her. Can't believe how cheap this was, I'm over the moon 😁

It has Norwegian subtitles
Love the collection but the picture isn’t that clear and I can’t seem to get rid of the Norwegian subtitles

Excellent price, prompt delivery, distracting dutch subtitles
Prompt delivery in good condition. As noted, some episodes had distracting dutch subtitles that were fixed on the screen.Joan Hickson remains the ultimate Miss Marple, in my opinion.

A PARTICULAR PLEASURE
Joan Hickson IS Miss Marple. Many have said so, including the Queen. Savour here the solving of twelve complex cases. Clutching either handbag or knitting, Miss Marple is so often with head slightly inclined as she observes, listens and ponders. Inspectors would do well to heed her advice, especially abrasive Slack who always gets everything wrong. It is back to faithfully recreated times of steam trains and hats, but hints that already standards are beginning to fall - Bertram's Hotel the exception, or is even there all as it seems?Wholeheartedly recommended? Sadly there is a problem. Be advised Amazon has grouped together reviews of all the box sets. There are several and they vary. Mine was an imported version. The twelve episodes were not in the order as first shown and ALL had Dutch subtitles that could not be removed. It thus pays to take care when selecting which box set to buy.Five stars nonetheless. Joan Hickson alone would have made it worthwhile, but all the way through there are additional pleasures - star turns from veterans sadly no longer with us, early sightings of actors now famous, (including Kevin Whately before he became Morse's Lewis).Yes, immensely enjoyable, despite this particular box set's technical failings. Be advised the box set is not the one featured at the top of this review. (In fact, I now see the box set purchased a month ago is no longer available.)

Jane Marple, one of Agatha Christies perfect private investigators.
Having read the books and seen these on tv I was expecting to be sitting on the edge of my seat. The only disappointment is that it has Dutch subtitles that can't be turned off unlike most films where you have the options of language/subtitles.Joan is the perfect Jane Marple, Agatha wrote the stories for her, but being too young at the time we had to wait for her to come of age, and she was perfect.Other actresses who have played the part are good but Joan was brilliant.

Enjoyable
Joan Hickson was rightfully chosen by Agatha Christie for the role; she is the incarnation of Miss Marple, a kind but no-nonsense, well educated, well connected elderly lady who has the sharp mind of a top detective. Murder is never entertaining but it is Joan Hickson rather than the murders who commands the attention. The films take us back in time and it is obvious that every detail from cars to clothes to furniture was carefully selected. In a nutshell, they are pleasant entertainment and a must for viewers interested in psychology.

The packaging is problematic, dvds being piled one over the other, making it difficult to extract, with the bother of breaking or bruising one when taking them off their box. These are dvd video standard not adequate to all dvd readers.Subtitling is dutch solely which is a problem with people not familiar with this language and may not suit english reading viewers.
