Terrific book by someone who knows the Temps inside and out , founder and sole surviving member , Otis Williams. This book is much better than the movie and goes into more detail as well as mentioning the differences . This is a must read for all Temptation fans and true to the Temps , a hit for sure !

The Temptations
Another winner in my Temptations collection. I just purchased the updated Kindle version. Honestly, I found it difficult to put down. It's a good read. I would have more pictures in it throughout the book. It would have been great to have good portraits of each of The Temptations and their personal bios and contributions to the group.I would've also made the discography neater and put the singles next to their albums.I grew up listening to The Temptations and I still listen to them daily. I've not been able to meet them or go to a concert or get autographs--but they are truly my favorite group ever. I have more music by them than by anybody else. They've been part of my good times as well as the bad ones.I learned some new things about the gentlemen of soul and so will you when you read this book.Reading this book was like sitting with Otis and listening to him share his memories. I have the mini series DVD and it's great. There were times I cried watching it. I've watched it many times over -- and it was like going back in time. The casting was perfect and everyone was great in it. The music I cannot say enough about -- so I will just say Temptations 4-Ever.Thank you, Otis for sharing your heart -- in the music, in the dancing, and in this book.If you happen to read this review, I want you to know that I count The Temptations as one of my greatest blessings in this life.

Otis's Version of the Tempts
I love this book and I am grateful that Otis Williams wrote it. But I strongly suggest to all Motown fans to do your own research and read other books because things don't add up with Otis's version of the Temptations. I am not calling the man a liar because I admire him and I think he believes his own story, but I feel that he's trying to add importance to himself by taking away from David, Paul (my favorite), Eddie, Dennis and even Melvin. I didn't like the way he protrayed any of them. Yes, its true that David, Paul, Dennis and Eddie had both ego and personal problems, but I am sure that Otis had his demons too. In fact, from what I hear he wasn't the best person either. But he doesn't show that side to you in his book. The only bad thing he admits to is cheating on his wife and at times, I felt like he was bragging about his relationships with certain women. Although he was kinder to his friend Melvin, he protrayed Melvin as a follower and not a leader. I wonder why? One of the most disturbing tales in his book is about Paul's drinking problem. Its true that he had a problem, but Otis doesn't really talk about Paul's bout with Sickle Cell which made his problem even worst. Also Paul's "suicide" his rather strange and things don't add up (but do the research). I also found it odd that he didn't talk alot about how Berry G. ran Motown and why alot of the artists lived terrible lives after their Motown's glory years and why most died broke. By now, everyone knows that Berry was a cheat, but Otis seems to forgive him more than he forgives his brothers. Part of the reason why they died so young has something to do with Berry. Now, I am not blaming Berry for everything. I have read books that put all the blame on Berry (which I don't agree with), but its doesn't take an expert to realize that the Motown story is mostly sad. We will never hear David, Paul, Eddie, and Melvin's side of the story...and that is why you shouldn't take this book as 100% fact. Maybe the still living Dennis will write his own version. Excellent book, but not perfect.

What a great book!
I watched the mini-series "The Temptations" on TV last week and was so intrigued that I immediately bought the book. To be honest, I wasn't expected the book to be that great but, wow, was I delighted to be so wrong. It's very well-presented, with excellent grammar and great insights. The love and affection Otis, the storyteller, has for his partners shines through on every page, even when he's being honest about everyone's (including his own) faults. And the many photos are a bonus. I was actually sad when I finished the book and I don't say that about many books.

Temptations personal story
I have read some other reviews of this book and all I can say that Otis personified his dealings with the group as only he can. In other words, each person always has their version of the story. Otis was sincere in his story in what he had to tell, and I am sure had Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin were able to tell their story, theirs would be very different too. In other words, it all depends on each person's viewpoint. Regardless, Otis seemed and did try to be loyal to the group as much as possible. Being human with their own characters and faults, someone had to keep the group together and it fell on Otis Williams to do so. If there are any complaints on this subject, perhaps a medium could contact the other members from the great beyond and write THEIR story differently. But, since it has not happened, we have to rely on Otis' way of telling the story. His is a more detailed, insider and personal story that is written in this book. I vote for Otis' version anytime.

fine book
I know, every story has three sides; mine, yours and the one recorded by the security cam. But Otis was the only one who had the time to write his version and I'm glad he did. Nice book for Temptations, Motown and Soul fans

Thank you Mr. Williams for writing this book.
