My teenager loves Bachan’s Japanese Original and Hot & Spicy Barbecue Sauce. When I saw that they have a Hella Hot BBQ sauce I was sold because we both love spicy. If you have not tried Bachan’s Japanese BBQ Sauce you are missing out. This BBQ sauce offers a Teriyaki taste but is also savory which balances out the sweet. My son and I put the Hella Hot and the Hot and Spicy on a plate to do a taste test. The Hot and Spicy is sweet with a kick but it’s not crazy hot so I didn’t expect for the Hella Hot to actually live up to it’s name but I’m here to tell you that it does not disappoint. I love, love, love spicy and this sauce is actually spicy. I eat a lot of habanero, ghost pepper, spicy sauces and am usually disappointed in this so called spicy sauces but was so happy that the Hella Hot sauce didn’t disappoint me. It still has the savory teriyaki, with a balanced sweetness but the spicy kick is a real kick. You can clearly taste the habanero flavor which I love. My teenager said that it is a little too spicy for him and he plans on sticking to the Hot and Spicy. We have tried all of the Banchan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce flavors and as someone who loves spicy mixed with sweet I can easily say that the Hella Hot flavor is by far my favorite. If you love spicy but can never seem to find a sauce that is truly spicy give this sauce a try, it will not disappoint.

The soy-based, umami-rich flavors with hints of garlic, ginger, and sesame make it perfect for marinating, glazing, or dipping. And when you’re cooking, the sauce’s nice, thick consistency really sticks to your protein, giving it a rich, flavorful coating every time. I have seen the Bachan's Original everywhere, but I never got around to actually picking up a bottle. Now that I have tried it, I am sold! I completely understand why it is popular; it is super delicious and versatile. The flavor is similar to a teriyaki sauce, but not overly sweet and with great umami flavor. It was excellent with some crispy chicken and rice, but it's truly one of those sauces that would be great on almost anything. The Hella Hot version is excellent too! If you're sensitive to spice I would say to stick with the Original, but I do like things spicy, and the Hella Hot did not disappoint. It has the same flavor profile as the Original, but with a nice kick to it. I definitely would not describe the heat level as extreme, (even sriracha is hotter than this for sure) but it has good amount of heat that most spice eaters should enjoy. Both bottles came sealed for safety and quality, and the flip top caps don't seem to be particularly messy or difficult to dispense the sauces. I can get these sauces locally for about $8 a bottle, so this two pack is definitely priced on the higher side ($23.98 with a 10% coupon at the time of this review). However, the flavor and quality are great, so if you can't get it locally then I suppose this isn't a terrible deal to have it shipped to your door.
