Nice overview of a little known aircraft
I actually picked this up as a replacement, having lost my first copy years ago.Less well known than the siblings on either side of it (the F4F Wildcat and F6F Hellcat,) the F5F is probably most well known to anyone who saw the old "Blackhawks" comic. For an aircraft that never saw combat service, it got a starring role in that series. And lessons learned from this aircraft (and its modifications) led to the F7F Tigercat. It's a rather short book, but the aircraft had a rather short life, too, and you can't really ask for more detail than this book gives. Drawings and photos carry you along with the history and description of the aircraft, its design, testing, modifications and fate.Yes, it's a little niche, as far as aircraft go, but it's interesting and the book is well executed.

This seems a digital reprint
I received this book from the seller and it seems that this edition is a digital reprint. That is fine for the text, but some photos and the scale drawings suffer from a moire effect. Best to seek out an original copy.

Interesting but short!
Not until after ordering did I notice only 32 pages long -- I finished it the night it arrived and is now on to secondary readership. Considering the nature of the subject, I guess this is about as much as anyone could write about it.

The booklet has a good history of the F5F
The booklet has a good history of the F5F, but is rather light on actual specifics and has poor drawings. For someone doing detailed modeling I can not recommend it.

Grumman XF5F, Too much, Too soon and Too late.
Gintner Aviation Histories are a standard in the aviation enthusiast and aircraft modeler crowd. The series includes much lesser known such as this experimental that never received any production orders. The XF5F was designed and developed to fulfill a U.S. Navy requirement for a heavy carrier based fighter. This is plane that was built out of time. Too much too soon too late. Interested, yes this is go you.

Two different books are combined in one cover.
Imagine my surprise when I opened the book and the title page read "The Elements of Ritual"! I did find the book I had ordered at the very back. I'll just remove the part I don't want and keep the part about the Grumman XF5F. I am happy with that part.
