I wasn't sure this was going to work for me. I have a bird feeder that I like to place high up on a tree. There is a broken off limb from which a small birdfeeder can hang, and make feeding convenient & a bit safer for smaller birds. The small pine squirrels love it, too. But it was difficult balancing the birdfeeder with just a pole. So I bought this and it has worked beautifully. There was a little bit of a learning curve on where to grab the feeder and how to hold & lift it, but it didn't take long to figure out the best way. I have since used it for various things around the house, such as getting an extension cord positioned underneath a large king-size bed. So it's definitely been worth the cost of the tool for me. It folds up easily for storage. You have to make sure, though, that you have it secured when in the extended position. I have it collapse a couple of times because I didn't "pull it down" tightly prior to starting to lift it. (User error and no damage done.) Because of its extreme length, I would say that it has limited use, unless you have a specific situation like mine. I do not think it will hold extreme weight because of its length (it would 'bow'). I'm not sure how much the filled bird feeder weighs but I would think no more than ten pounds if that. I am very pleased with the purchase of this. I have used it now for almost one year and it has held up beautifully. Very well made. I will definitely look to ArcMate for shorter reachers as the need arises.

I actually used this for an odd application. I had hand surgery and didn’t have the use of my left hand for a while. My brother installed an owl box for me when he helped with after surgery. We didn’t know at the time that cedar shavings needed to be placed in the bottom. So, since I can’t use a ladder and have to get up to the box that is at last 15 feet up, I bought and used this. It was very sturdy and did the job of holding all the shavings very nicely.

I bought this for the sole purpose of getting my outdoor security cameras down for recharging and then replacing them. It was a pain dragging out a big tall ladder in whatever weather on uneven, sometimes unstable ground. This makes a quick job of it. the locking feature works great. It's light weight enough that I'm able to easily hold it up and use it reposition the camera when I replace it (just attaches to a big magnet). i realize my very specific use probably doesn't matter to most... but the take aways are that it's light weight and easy to hold up and that the locking mechanism is fantastic.

I bought this because I am disabled and in a wheelchair, and wanted something that was longer than the standard grabbers on amazon. This was super long, but it has some big drawbacks. First, is it doesn't grab well. At all. If the thing you're grabbing is small or narrow, it has a terrible time grabbing it and maintaining a grip on it. Even stuff that fits well between the suction cups, has a hard time maintaining a grip. It's like you can grab the thing you're reaching for, grip it, and while you have a hold of it, keep squeezing the handle and the grip will keep closing. It just feels low quality. Second, the fold out style works ok, but it's so long, that you can't really pull whatever you're reaching for towards you easily. When you grab something, and try top pull it towards you, you can't keep a grip on the handle and bring the thing you have grabbed to you comfortably. You kind of have to drop it near you, readjust the grabber, and drag it towards you. It's not convenient. If you have to have something longer than the standard grabbers on amazon, it works - I'd seriously look for something else though, as the grabbing strength really makes this thing suck big time, and I wouldn't buy it again.
