I bought this book to make my Grandson the Thomas the Tank Engine cake. I couldn't make out the instructions for the shaping of the cake, no matter how many times I read it so in the end I had to judge by the photograph which worked okay. Thomas turned out fine but not quite like Debbie's, the cakes in the book are so perfect to look at and I found it impossible to be that precise, especially the wheels. It all looks so much easier than it is. My Grandson was pleased though so it was worth the effort. I own a few of Debbie Brown's books, my favorite is the 50 easy party cakes, much easier for my limited experience!!

Good content with loads of pictures...note to self; I really must find where I put this book.I might be buying another copy.

This is a super book full of great ideas, but the instructions are not that easy to follow. I started with a difficult one, Thomas the Tank Engine, and it took a whole day even with the help of my neighbour who has previous experience of these projects.However, the result was stunning and the best part for me was when my 2 year old grandson first saw it and thought he could play with it because it was so realistic.

This book is really lovely with loads of great pictures to illustrate the cakes described. My only criticism is that the "carving" instructions are a bit confusing especially with the Thomas cake. I ended up modelling the cake from the pictures rather than the instructions - turned out ok in the end though!

I own about four Debbie Brown books, have successfully made quite a few cakes from them and have always understood the instructions. However, Thomas the Tank Engine really tried my patience. I found the instructions for carving quite vague - and there was quite a bit of carving. As this is probably the most important bit of the cake I think that step by step instructions with photos would have helped greatly. It is a very fiddly cake to make with lots of little things to make and cut out and it took quite a few hours to decorate.I also feel that this cake is not for the novice, although I can't comment on any of the other cakes in this book yet.Have to say though that the recipient was delighted with the finished cake.

Bought this to make a cake for my sons birthday. Very easy to follow with great results. Supprised how much it costs to buy the materials to enable the cake to look as good as it does in the book.

I am often asked to make 'character' cakes for chidlrens' birthdays, and am very glad to have invested in this book. The cakes are lovely, the modelling instructions are foolproof. I feel sure that even the most inexperienced decorator could make great little figures following the excellent and detailed instructions in this fab book.

Really good book, has a great selection of ideas for children's cakes. Good step by step guides and pictures throughout to make it as easy as possible. Teaches you good techniques too,
