Lovely Book in a Lovely Setting
Phillipa Ashley's books just keep getting better and better! This one is still set in her beloved Cornwall, but this time on the Scilly Isles. It is the first in a new series of separate stories with the same setting and some recurring characters. Maisie--who has her 40th birthday during the course of the novel--has moved back home to the islands after a tragedy in her personal life and is helping her parents run the charming but a bit in need of repair Driftwood Inn. One day Patrick, a gorgeous, blond Aussie walks into the pub and into her life. As their relationship develops, so do issues on the island. A developer wants to turn Gull Island from a quaint, authentic place into a luxury resort destination. Both Maisie and Patrick have secrets, some of which threaten not only their relationship but the future of the island. There are so many things I loved about this book! I liked the slightly older heroine and that the hero was a bit younger, the setting and the interesting supporting characters. I liked the warmth of this book. Most of all, the book made me want to visit the Scilly Islands. Also, it will be hard to wait until February to find out what happens in the next book in the series!

Pleasant
This is a cozy romance with the usual bumps before everything gets sorted. Still it is an easy read and an insight into life in the Scilly isles. It sounds like a lovely place to visit.

Too bad Scilly is fictional..'

Romance novel set in islands off the English coast.
A light read. Romance novel set in islands off the English coast. A little hard to keep track of them. A map would have helped, even a fake one of the writers imagination.

Lots of fun
No great literature here, but a fun story set in a beautifully described setting. I enjoy this author's work, and hope to someday visit this part of England.

"What a tangled web we weave...
They say you should never go home again. Those who have done it, like me, know that there are many compromises to be made. Maisie's decision seemed obvious, she has just gone through some pretty terrible personal tragedies, her father is not well and home is, after all, the Scilly Islands. Phillipa loves these islands, the story is filled with local flavour, wonderful descriptions and interesting characters so easy to get attached to. Maisie's struggle to trust again is at the center. You really want her and Patrick to find the love they are both searching for. They almost lost it all when facts about Patrick were brutally exposed. I got so caught up in the story that I cried like a baby, I couldn't stop reading until I knew they would both be ok. Loved this story.

楽しめました
イギリスの西の果てのシリー島の実家に帰ってきた主人公が、家業のパブと地元のビジネスを再興させようと奮闘する物語。最後のどんでん返しが面白かったです。

I love Phiiipa Ashley's books and this is another great one
I love Phiiipa Ashley's books and this is another great one! Set on a fictional island in the Silly Islands off the south-west coast of England, the scene set if lovely - you can feel the wind and the sea with her lovely descriptions. I liked the characters and their joys and struggles and of course the "Happy Ever After" when all the twists and turns sort out! Highly Recommend

A looong read.
I found the storyline slow & fairly tedious with a predictable ending. I enjoyed the descriptions of the landscapes & ocean. They were very true of the Scilly Isles. My first introduction to this author. I won’t be rushing to read others
