This is a perfectly decent guide to the Court of Protection. It does not go into a huge amount of detail and is not a practitioner textbook (which can cost hundreds of pounds) but goes through the various processes in the Court of Protection, how various things are achieved, the sorts of forms that need to be lodged with the court.I purchased this before starting work as a paralegal in a team dealing with the Court of Protection and for the first couple of weeks this book was invaluable in terms of background reading and getting to grips with the process. It clearly is written as a point of reference for either a lay person or a paralegal just starting in the job.If you are an individual who is facing Court of Protection proceedings regarding a family member, or you are a paralegal or other legal executive just starting in the Court of Protection, this is something you will find really useful.

I found this book enormously useful when starting my application to become a Deputy. But, having seemed to have got through the initial stages very smoothly, I am now marooned and the book helps not at all. The Court has gone silent and I don't have a clue what their processes are or how long they will take - 5 months so far in the most straightforward and uncontested case you can imagine. Now I begin to think I made a mistake and should have gone to a solicitor. To that extent I believe the book, and the Court itself, misleads the layperson.
