Reliable, affordable, and thoughtfully Designed
After switching from a more expensive competitor, we’ve been using Tractive for over a month now and it’s been a noticeably better experience. The tracking is accurate and consistent, even outside Wi-Fi range. The app is intuitive, doesn’t drain your phone battery, and includes thoughtful features without being pushy. Social elements like location sharing and activity tracking are fun, but not intrusive. Most importantly, it does what it promises: keeps tabs on your dog reliably and in real time. Battery life is solid, and the hardware is somewhat more clunky than the main competitor yet easy to attach. It’s also much more affordable than other options we tried, both up front and over time. Customer service hasn’t been needed often, but when we’ve reached out, it’s been straightforward and responsive, no hidden fees, no games. If you’re looking for a GPS dog tracker that just works, Tractive’s been the clear winner for us.

Great improvement since tracker first came out!! Well done Tractive!
I bought the original tracker several years ago and it did not work in my rural area. This newer model works so much better! I like the power saving mode and being able to set fences for my dog, although it would be nice to set up to at least 8 fences for when I travel to different areas or to see family. I don’t want to erase fences in order to set new ones in different areas. Live tracking works well and is accurate. I’m not sure how accurate the health data is but it’s a nice feature to give an idea of overall health. I like seeing the total exercise minutes per day that my dog gets.

Lifesaving GPS Dog Tracker for My Escape-Artist Husky
This GPS dog tracker has been a game-changer! The phone app is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy to monitor my dog’s location. The tracker cleverly uses my home Wi-Fi to conserve power, and the battery lasts over a week on maximum tracking mode. Having lost two huskies in the past due to their notorious escaping habits, I was hesitant to adopt another. But after discovering this tracker, I confidently rescued a beautiful husky who’d been at the humane society for over nine months because of her escape tendencies. This device gives me peace of mind, knowing I can always find her. If I’d had this tracker years ago, I likely wouldn’t have lost my other dogs. Highly recommend for any pet owner, especially those with adventurous breeds!

A good choice, but with caveats
This tracker does just about everything it claims to do, and does it well. There's at least one big caveat to this, (which I'll deal with in a moment) and several smaller issues you should consider. The fact is that this tracker, like ALL such trackers, is not a perfect solution. It has several shortcomings, but if you're unfortunate enough to lose your dog, it's still way better than no tracker at all. 1. The tracker is fairly compact, and fits securely on a standard collar. CAVEAT: it does add a little weight to your dog's collar, and although the manufacturer claims it can be worn by dogs as small as 8.8 lbs, if your dog is much under 25 lbs you might want to consider attaching it to their harness instead of the collar. 2. The tracker is well-made, well designed, and looks like it will last a while. It allows you to set up power-saving zones (in your house, for example) in order to conserve the battery's charge. CAVEAT: it's a rechargeable device, so like all such devices, its lifespan is defined by the eventual failure of the battery. At that point you'll just have to discard a perfectly good, functional tracker because the battery's not replaceable. Such is the bane of rechargeable devices in a throw-away culture. Also, although the manufacturer claims "up to 14 days" between charges, my experience is that it's closer to a week when you have a power-saving zone active, and 4 or 5 days without. The app will notify you when the battery's running low. 3. The tracker mostly provides an accurate picture of where your dog is. CAVEAT: the trace you see on the map is not always dead accurate, but that's not the tracker's fault; due to the vagaries of GPS, it can't be. But it's close enough to enable you to see pretty well where Fido is, and when you set the tracker to record a walk, for example, it's usually very accurate. 4. The tracker's a breeze to set up, and connects well with WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and cellular signals. CAVEAT- AND THIS IS THE BIG ONE: to work effectively, the tracker needs all four systems available. If you're in an area with no cell coverage, you can't track your dog. In fact, you won't even be able to check their health metrics without a cell signal. We bought two of these units for our dogs because we were taking them with us into the wild blue yonder of Canada. Well, not exactly the wilderness per se, but a fairly isolated house in the woods. We had WiFi and GPS, but no cellular coverage. In this scenario, the trackers simply don't work. This can be a big problem, because this is exactly the kind of location in which you want to be able to find your dog. It seems like the tracker should be able to locate and track your dog with just the GPS signal and WiFi (for your phone) but no. So the bottom line is this: if you spend most of your time in your neighborhood or traveling in towns and cities, this is an excellent tracker. But venture anywhere without cellular coverage, and you're SOL as far as locating your dog is concerned. The 'radar' function will work, but that just uses your phone's Bluetooth and has a limited range (100ft if you're lucky, 30ft or less if you're not) and isn't particularly helpful as it indicates the proximity of your dog, but not the direction. To be clear, this is far better than having no tracker at all, and WAY better than Air Tags, which rely on your dog being close to people with iPhones or other Apple devices. But don't assume that this tracker will work in all situations. As the manufacturer correctly claims, the device is "rugged enough for outdoor adventures." Just be sure that those adventures don't take you too far off the beaten track and out of cellular coverage, because then you're truly in the wilderness.

Got through initial setup, now very pleased (so far)
Really loving the map, the tracking, very cool. Wish I'd had this 25 years & one escape artist labrador ago. Note: I did have trouble getting the 6 month subscription to show up. No activation code and no option not to buy the 1 year subscription so putting in this review to address that. No, you do not need to buy a 1 year subscription. If you don't see the "activate 6 months" option, let customer service know. They fixed it for me within hours and now all is well. Also, it had an extend 6 more months for $10 option (which I took), which should also be a price consideration (tracker+12 month subscription for $89). I was trying to decide between Fi and Tractive, and decided to go with this because when you are looking for your dog, 1 minute updates are not enough to catch them imo -- it has to be seconds. Also think this one will be more durable for rough housing. Really like the map they have. I took the advice in these reviews and put a couple of zip ties on it just in case. Only had it 24 hours but really like it so far after initial set up issue.
