Good enough for me...
I live in a hot, humid summer climate (coastal North Carolina), and I found that I was running my central air quite a bit higher than I'd like, just to keep a certain room on the sunny side of the house cool. Not only was that using a lot of electricity unnecessarily, my central air was repeatedly freezing over and generating a ton of condensation that I'd rather not see. Enter the idea of putting a small portable AC unit in the room where I work, rather than trying to keep the rest of the house cool around me.I've used several Honeywell products before, and for the most part, they've been okay, so I decided to go with this unit instead of one of the unknown generic models. Yes, I know that Honeywell doesn't actually build these units, but it still seemed like a better risk than going with a total unknown.I also chose this unit because is supposedly only draws 6.4 amps at peak. I work in a room with several large computers, monitors, printers and so forth - last thing I wanted was to bring something in that would overload the relatively meager electrical capacity of my home office.Out of the box, I had a few complaints. First, although the unit comes with casters, they are too small to work on any sort of plush carpet. A handle on each side or across the top would have been a welcome addition. The other issue is that I just didn't find the vent design compelling. After trying to get an airtight fit in my pretty conventional double-hung window, I eventually gave up and made my own mounting. Some of the other customers show their vents held in place with duct tape and so forth - that just seemed way too flimsy for me...we often get that passing afternoon thunderstorm, and I could just envision the wind-driven rain pushing past the standard vent.My solution uses a bit of scrap 1" x 3" lumber to make a small box that sits inside my window, the bottom resting on the sill and the top extending outwards so that I can close the window onto it. I mounted the stock vent assembly on this small frame with screws and epoxy, and now I have something that's completely air- and water-tight.The unit is simple to operate - just select "Hi" or "Low" and choose a temperature. I wouldn't call it "quiet" unless you're comparing it to maybe a small power tool or your leaf blower, but on the low setting, it's not too obtrusive. Still, I do find myself turning it off when I take an important phone call. You can barely hear my central air cycling on and off...this is certainly different than that. The cooling performance is more than adequate for me. As I write, it's 94 degrees and 100% humidity outside. I have the central air set to 78 degrees, but this little AC has no trouble keeping my home office at 68-70 and 40-50% relative humidity. That's in a room roughly 15'x15' with 12 foot ceilings and in full sun on three sides. To me, this is very good performance from an 8000 BTU unit. No, this little Honeywell portable AC isn't perfect, but it gets the job done in a straightforward way. The price is lower than what I expected, and overall, even with the shortcomings I outlined here, I'm pretty happy with it overall.

I was sick from heat exhaustion until I got this
I'm a stubborn person and refused to get an A/C for my studio apartment because my lease says I can't install one. Even if I wanted one, it was too complicated (in my opinion) to look around for good window units with the right BTU and so on. After two extreme heatwaves where I nearly made myself sick and my two cats refused to leave the cooler bathroom tile, my manager convinced me to buy a portable A/C, any portable A/C. We stopped work and looked on Amazon together (over the phone) and he pointed out the various models that looked good. I settled on this beauty because of the good reviews and the easy maintenance and "installation". I was not disappointed.I missed the first delivery because I was at a concert, but it was delivered the USPS and I scheduled a re-delivery the next day. It came roughly 10 in the morning and I immediately started setting it up. It is quite easy to remove from the box because of the instructions on the outside telling how to open it, and it is heavy but light enough to move with one person (sliding on the floor). It came with all the pieces needed, the window pieces, filter, and tube in the back (and batteries for the remote). Putting it together is a matter of slotting the pieces together. It took a bit, but I'm sure I could do it easily in 5 minutes now.It ran like a charm when I plugged it in and hit the power button. My room was a warm 84 with two medium fans blasting it. I set the A/C to 76 and let it run hoping to chill the room. The room, a 400 sqft studio cooled down wonderfully. The temperature is actually quite comfortable at 78, any lower and it even starts to feel cold. My cats stopped hiding, I stopped sweating while being 3 ft away from the fans, and I could sleep again.I'm a simple person who essentially runs this if I am in the room, but when I go to work I let it run a few hours before letting it time out. My cats don't get hot (because I also turn a fan on) but the room is always 80-82 degrees when I return. I wish there was some way to set up a thermostat that turns it on and off depending on the temperature, but I'm not annoyed that it doesn't.It ran pretty much for 13 days before needing the filter cleaned, which the instruction manual says two weeks is generally the time that happens anyway. Cleaning the filters was easy, just pull them out, dust the inside (especially if you have furry pets, this thing will suck some fur up), rinse the filters and let them dry. Take a few hours to dry completely and then just pop them in.It is fairly quiet, at least compared to other units or fans I've used. When the A/C is in cooling mode it is a bit noisier, sort of like wet air whirling in a box, but then it cools down and it switches to the quieter fan mode and you hardly notice it. I haven't used the dehumidifier much because my room is no longer humid with the window closed (I had it open because I was suffocating with the window closed during the heat waves).I don't know how it will hold up in the long run, but hopefully it lasts just as well as it has in the first two weeks.

Difficult Directions
I could not understand the directions. The remote was a sturdy feature. Directions connected to the buttons on the remote would have helped. You can't just label a button and not correlated them with the instructions.
