Great product for stiff leather boots
I recently purchased a pair of boots that were very stiff and uncomfortable. In addition, I have a bunion which only added to the problem. At first, I tried a spray that was supposed to soften leather. By itself, the spray did not noticeably help, so I decided to try these stretchers along with the spray. I was very pleased with the results. Leaving the stretchers in the boots for 24 hours loosened up the leather so that even my bunion was not a problem. I read one review that complained about the adjusting rod breaking, but I suspect that person may have over-tightened the device. The instructions state very clearly to stop when you feel slight resistance. The stretchers also come with several inserts to place at spots where you might need extra stretching. I highly recommend this to anyone dealing with new boots that are too stiff or have tight-fitting areas.

Works well not made well
The seem well made but one of the arms broke off on the second turn the first time I used them. I wasn't even putting tension on the arm. Very disappointing. I was still able able to use it by twisting with with a wrench. The product works well but the quality wasn't quite what I had hoped. The exchange/refund policy seems easy enough. I am currently waiting on my return postage label to get the process started.

Great product!
The boot stretchers worked perfectly. I ride 4 wheelers and my boots are always muddy and wet after the ride. I cean them with a power washer, once they dry the boots always shrink and are very tight and uncomfortable when used for next ride. The boot stretchers eliminate the shrinking and discomfort.

Extremely cheap crap, but they worked
It was obvious from the start, that if I over tighten these things, they would probably explode ... so I took several days to stretch my boots, tightening just a little bit more each day, and it worked out fine. These are not professional quality, or anything close to it, but if you have a favorite pair of boots that need stretching, and you are very careful, these things will work.

What a waste of time and money....
I told myself I wasn't going to buy these based on the reviews...over and over. But it was $15 on these or like $80 on something else. Well, these are $15 for a reason.#1, like everyone else, they break the first time you use them. Whether you're gentle or not. I don't care what other reviews have said, there is no way to use these as an actual stretcher and not break them.#2, They don't even fit half way into a men's size 9 timberland boot. The most common shoe size on earth, and these don't fit in them. You need to have at least a size 11 shoe for these to go into the top of the shoe (where I and everyone else needs the shoe to stretch).I just don't understand how this became an actual piece of merchandise in commerce. It is a shoe shaped piece of wood that breaks. That's all it is.Go to a cobbler. Don't support this product anymore.

A really good idea
We used this boot stretcher to make room for a toe that was being rubbed raw by a seam. A little Neatsfoot oil and a good stretch with this bootstretcher improved the fit and made the boots look better because the buckling where the toes bend was reduced. I gave them 5 stars because the stretcher was easy to use, inexpensive, did what they were supposed to do, and made the boots useable again, saving my husband a lot of money.

Guess I couldn't expect much more for the price but ...
Amazon may not be selling these anymore from the looks of it but, should they come back, I would hope that the quality would improve. My set broke after one use ... or, I should say one "foot" broke and the other is a bit wonky. The one that broke can be opened enough to at least hold the boot from shrinking but its stretching days are over. The other one can still stretch but it looks like it's likely to break like the other one soon. What's breaking is a section on the back of the "foot" on the upper side where the two sides are held in register with each other but allowed to separate slightly. The problem is that there's a fat "pin" that holds the screw, the pin goes through the sides of the foot perpendicular to the screw, but the pin is too short. Once the foot is spread, the too short pin has a tendency to break out of the holes in the foot because there's not enough wood to still hold the wood. And I do mean "break out" as the pins tend to crack the wood as they come loose.Anyway, they have managed to stretch one pair of hiking boots so they do work. It just appears that if I have another set of boots to stretch, I'll need to buy another set of stretchers.

Excellent as I Expected
Does what it is supposed to do well. Mix 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water and pour it in the boot (then pour it in the other, then pour it out), or spray it (paste or wax can prevent exterior penetration so best from inside), saturating the leather then insert and twist with or without expansion nurdles. One reviewer stated it needs two universal joints; this joint is designed to only need one joint and it works well. Seems to be good quality materials, wood and metal, with plastic nurdles for bunions, etc. I recommend this product highly. 5 stars.
