These boot stretchers are a great deal for the money
These boot stretchers are a great deal for the money. I used them on an expensive pair of boots belonging to my wife which were a bit tight. They helped immensely. The universal joints are plastic so yes, you have to use common sense and a soft touch when tightening them. I'd also recommend spraying the inside of the boots liberally with boot stretch solution each time you stretch them. And you don't do it all in one night. You need to exercise some patience and do it incrementally over a week or two. They won't make a size 7 a size 8, but they can really help with the tight spots if done correctly.

Works great!
These boot stretchers are great! I have dozens of pair of cowboy boots. These are so nice to have to loosen a somewhat tight boot. I insert them, tighten as instructed, wait about 12 hours, take them out, reposition (if needed), reinsert and stretch boot for another 12 hrs. Works great! Even better if you use a leather conditioner or stretching spray. I wear a size 5.5 or 6 women's boot, these work just fine for my size. Not sure if they would work on a boot smaller than that.

These do not fit into women's boots, the wood pieces are too tall (thick)
The metal pieces used to manufacturer these Women's Boot Stretchers appears to be good quality.I had to give this product a low rating because there is a serious flaw in the design. The wood parts are very thick (height), and so they will not, can not, be put inside a pair of women's boots. I tried to use them on boots women's size 6. They wouldn't go in past where the arch is. No way this will work! I will need to remove about 1 inch of wood to thin them up before they will be the right height to do their job properly. I am thinking a combination of my Dremel tool and my palm sander will be necessary to shape and finish them. If you don't have some woodworking tools, you will be returning these things mark my words.Note too that these stretchers are not made of cedar. I would have preferred aromatic red cedar. Nope, just some generic type of wood.

Too 'clunky'
Bought these to stretch several pairs of Frye boots. I wear size 6, but these are too long to even get into the boot. The other issue is that the wooden piece is too tall (top to bottom). This means that I cannot even insert the piece into the boot because it is so thick. I guess you get what you pay for. I did like the fact that these were sold as a pair!

Helps a lot
My story starts like this. I ordered roller skates online and already sent one pair back. Don't believe men's sizes are any roomier than women's if you don't have cookie cutter feet. I spent $16 sending the first pair of skates back via UPS and didn't want to spend more money sending the second so I ordered these boot stretchers thinking I can use them more than once. When I got them I soaked the suede part of my skates in warm water, put these stretchers inside. They didn't fit all the way, they are too long unless you wear Sasquatch sizes, but they fit enough to get in the toes where I need them to be wider. I could still turn that wrench causing the wooden part of the stretchers to expend around the toes. I made sure they were wide enough, then left them until the suede dried completely, inside and out, then I removed the stretchers and tried the skates on and was amazed. They fit perfectly!I would recommend these stretchers for shoes and skates since the area around the toes are usually the widest part and I could fit these into the toe part of my lace-up skates. Might have difficulty with anything that doesn't lace since these stretchers have a wrench on the end that makes them longer than the average size shoe or boot and these are not for lengthening. I would have trouble fitting them into boots that do not lace up unless you have really large feet and wear something like a size 12.

Use gently, works great. Use roughly, you'll break it.
I read through the reviews and decided to risk it anyway. The biggest complaint seemed to be that they break. Well, I have had mine for several weeks now and have had NO PROBLEMS. I made sure to get shoe stretch to spray on my boots. Then I put them into my boots and started the stretching process. Once I met some resistance I stopped. The next day I gently gave it another turn or two. I continued turning them everyday or so, when I remembered too. After a couple of weeks, keeping them sprayed every few days and NOT MAN-HANDLING them they totally did the job. The only reason that I didn't give them a total 5 star was because they are cheaply made, but I got what I paid for and just use them gently. PS the corn pcs aren't all that easy to get in, but I was glad to have them. I used them all just to help get a bigger stretch.

A bit wider than anticipated but seems to work so far... update to come.
So far it seems to work fine. I wear a relatively small size and the area I need to stretch in my boots is near the toes, so it was a bit difficult to get the stretcher in because the wooden part of the stretcher is actually a bit larger than I anticipated. That said, once I removed the black plastic pressure point stretchers, I did manage to get the wood stretcher into my boots. Following the advice of other reviewers, I have begun stretching very slowly to avoid the problem others have had with breakage of the plastic sections. So far, I like it fine, and anticipate it will get the job done. I will update after some days of stretching.
