Will be buying again for backpacking lunches
Ate these for lunch during confluence hike at Havasu-Pai. Not a huge proportion but good for lunch. Would not be enough for dinner after a day of hiking/backpacking (I’m a guy). Cut out on having to bring a stove and all other cooking items needed for a hot lunch. These packets get HOT! Taste good too. This paired with some trail mix is a great lunch.

I would give it a 4 star if the heating packets worked properly. I've had to wait at least 10 minutes on the last two meals before it actually started heating. And one meal never heated so I ate it cold. I take these to work for lunch.

Heavy and low calorie
First I'll say the meal was good and I'll keep some around for emergencies. The heating worked ok and I like that you don't have to use your purified water. But the issue is the weight vs calories. When you're hiking or hunting for days in the back country, you need calories. (You won't find the nutritional info on omeal's website, I even asked but got no response)But based on a 2500 calorie a day, you'll need 15 @ 10.5oz or 9.8 pounds per day; 49 pounds for 5 days! For this I give 2 stars.

Not worth the money
The heating system worked well like those I used in the military with MRE meals. But, the portion was very small and the flavor was mediocre at best. Not savory as one expects with beef stew. Definitely not worth $18.85. Mountain House freeze-dried is much better and cheaper.

Great flavor - not recommended for backpacking
This review is for ALL OMeals flavors. While the flavor is actually really good, the package weight is 8 ounces. While carrying a few of these for a short backpacking trip isn't too much of a hassle, the calorie count for the weight isn't worth it, in my opinion. The vegetarian chili is about a cup, maybe, of food with 160 calories. This isn't meal-sized portions, especially when hiking/backpacking, so one would need to carry these meals plus supplements or other calorie sources - adding up to way too much food weight. I would recommend these for a light camping trip, but honestly, you can find better priced options. The flavor is good, but not good enough to make it worth it.
