Philips Master LED Bulb 13W (75W Replacement) Dimmable, Warm White, B22 Bayonet Cap [Energy Class A]

Lets face it, we like the idea of energy saving bulbs but actually most of them are a let down, be this in terms of brightness, quality of light, appearance or durability.This bulb addresses at least 2 and maybe more of those concerns, first of all the best thing about this bulb is the quality of light it produces. It's the closest I've seen to a traditional pearl tungsten filament bulb, not just in terms of colour temperature but also the softness, this is mainly down to the phosphor technology that Philips use to aid the LEDs. In pure power terms this is supposed to be the equivalent of a 75w tungsten bulb, actually I'd say it's a little brighter and certainly better in terms of colour temperature than a similarly spec'd LED bulb I'm using in an adjacent room  Long Life Lamp Company B22 10 Watt LED Light Bulb 830 Lumens Very Bright Equivalent to 75 Watt Incandescent Replacement, Warm White . There is no green colour cast with the Philips bulb.Now on to the looks department, not sure I could say it was good looking but much nicer that nearly all CFLs, one thing to mention with that large heat-sink this bulb weighs quite a bit more than the equivalent tungsten bulb, it's also a bit longer. This bulb is almost instant on but not quite if that's important to you, I estimate it takes about 0.2 seconds and you don't have to wait for it to get to full brightness.As to longevity it's early days but it's built like a tank, we'll just have to see.Now for the downside to this bulb, apart from the price that is. I don't see how Philips can claim that it is compatible with 99% of all dimmers. If you have a dimmer that has any sort of glowing led or neon inside it will not work. If you dig around online and find the detailed specifications for this bulb, you will find that it also only works with trailing edge dimmers, not leading-edge ones.I was hoping for a bulb that is able to be used on a remote control dimmer, this cannot be used with mine and there are very few, if any on the market at the moment but will work with this bulb. The vari light eclique may possibly work, they recommend Philips Dimmable LED bulbs on their website, I may give it a try I can always send it back if it doesn't work. Later on... Today I checked with the manufacturer vari light and they told me that their eclique dimmer does work with this bulb. I will be buying one in the next 2 weeks and trying it out and I'll let everybody know via this review.That said I have decided to keep this bulb and use it in my 2nd bedroom where it's going to replace a CFL that has a nice quality of light but takes about 5 mins to get to full brightness, that bulb has been consigned to the spares cupboard.**I also purchased a Varilight Eclique dimmer after I was advised by technical support at Varilight that it would work. After trying various setups and work-arounds it would not work properly as the dimmer went into protection mode that could not be overridden full time. This means that it would not dim up and down properly remotely, you get about 60% of the maximum brightness of this bulb**

This is one sexy looking bulb!It's bright and warm light and all that, all good.But the best bit is how it looks when it's not on!I must be getting old.....

Get one while you can before production shifts over to the all-white models.There is no better LED bulb available.

Excellent bulb! Bizarre looking when not in use, but outputs lots of great quality light. I like this a lot!
