Do I really *need* a robot vacuum? **UPDATED--WHY I WENT FROM 5 TO 1 STAR**
**UPDATE 2** 3/6/2020 WHAT WENT WRONG???? Wow... so after having the vacuum for 15 months and using it 3-5 times a week I started to notice that the batter no longer holds a charge long enough to finish all of my hard floors and it no longer picks up as much as it once did. I now have to get a broom and sweep my floors after running the vacuum if I want my floors clean enough to mop. That kind of defeats the purpose of having the vacuum.Having received great customer service in the past from Tesvor, I reached out and explained my issue and asked if purchasing a new battery would help or if they had any other suggestions. Here was the response I received:"With the increase of the use time, the battery and hardware of the machine will be consumed. This is inevitable.Regular cleaning can prolong the robot using time/ life, but the suction will gradually decrease. You can buy a new battery, maybe helps.Regards."So what they are telling me is that using the vacuum on a regular basis for only a year will decrease the efficiency of the unit, basically rendering the vacuum useless. Along with *maybe* buying a new battery will help. Of course they have not yet provided information on where or how to purchase another battery--yes, I asked.Oh and just to clarify, yes I did change the brushes out regularly. If I was buying a cheap $40 or $50 vacuum I'd understand, but at the price point for this vacuum I would really expect it to last longer than a year. Maybe I just expected too much, but I don't think so.**UPDATE** 7/9/19 AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! So last month my vacuum started to make this high pitched squeal--kind of like when the power steering belt is going out on a car. It really made the vacuum unusable. I tried the 'normal' things--replaced the brushes, cleaned the unit etc and the noise continued. So I contacted customer service via email. The only thing they requested was a video of what was happening, as soon as I sent the video they immediately (same day) sent me a prepaid shipping label. I boxed and returned the unit and today, 12 days later, my unit was returned to me in perfect working order. I could not be happier with my purchase or my experience with their customer service. I would give this product 6 stars if I could!!**ORIGINAL REVIEW** Of course not. I am capable of sweeping my floors daily--I just don't *want* to. I have almost 1300 sqft of hard floors and they need to be swept on a daily basis--if not more--just to keep up on the miscellaneous things carried in to the house by our shoes, our dog, our guests... I'm not sure where it all comes from and I swear it appears magically overnight somehow. I didn't buy this so I'd never have to sweep the floors again, but if I can go from sweeping 7 days a week to only twice a week--that's a win in my book.Lets take a look at the features, and how I feel about them and if they work or not:SMART APP & VOICE CONTROLS--I have used the app to set a schedule for the vacuum to auto start and used this for about a week before I realized it didn't work for me. The system worked--but too many things in my day to day didn't. Like when we had house guests over the holidays and had people overflowing onto couches and air mattresses in both living and family rooms. While I may normally be up and moving at 6:30am, my house guests are not. So, when at 6:30 in the morning my vacuum announced 'Smart Cleaning Mode' and promptly ate the corner of my sisters blanket, everyone was awake, grumpy and slightly amused. However, I turned this feature off and simply use the remote control to turn my vacuum on as I make my morning coffee. I did receive an Echo Dot for Christmas and didn't know for a few weeks that I could link it with this vacuum--hehehe now I do. So no more looking for the remote (that I can never put back in the same place twice) on my way to the coffee pot, instead it's a simple 'Alexa, turn on robot' and off it goes. (Does anyone else feel like the 'Jetson lifestyle' we all wanted to live in as kids watching cartoons is becoming closer to reality?) I wish I could say 'Alexa return robot to the charger' or some such, but you can't and if you tell it to turn the robot off, it just shuts down where it is instead of returning to the charger. But that is an issue with the Alexa skill and not with the vacuum itself. Oh and another thing about the app--it is kind of fun to watch where the vacuum has been as it works it's way through the house and 'maps'.SUPERIOR FULL COVERAGE: Does this map the floor plan of your home and use it for future reference? No. It will continue to bump into chair legs, other pieces of furniture and walls every time it runs. What it does do is map where it's been to detect where it needs to go--this ensures that the entire floor gets cleaned. Plus, I don't know about you, but my dining room chairs are never pushed in exactly the same way and those 'conversational' chairs in the living room are always being moved or re positioned (not too mention the dog bed being moved and her toys being on the floor) so if this poor vacuum was running off of some sort of mapped memory, it would be a bit scattered anyway, and still running into things. Not many homes have every piece of furniture, floor plant or other obstacle in the exact same spot every day. So.. that's not a big deal for me, plus it has little bumpers so there is no damage to my furniture.POWERFUL CLEANING SYSTEM--Maybe I'm strange but I really wanted to see if this thing worked as soon as I took it out of the box. So once I had it charged and set it off the first time I dropped a handful of sesame seeds down in the middle of my family room floor, curled up on the couch and waited. It picked them all up. So next I tried a handful of clean cat litter and dropped that on the floor... it picked it all up. Next it was salt, and yes, then pepper--it got it all. There was a bit of spreading around with the pepper flakes, but after a pass or two it was taken care of. There are still things it will miss, a blade of grass here or there, but over all it does a fantastic job.ENJOY SAFE SMART CLEANING--I don't have any stairs so I don't know about that and if I don't want the vacuum in a room, I just shut to door so I can't comment on this feature.WORRY-FREE WARRANTY--I have not had an issue that would required the use of the warranty so I don't have an opinion here. However, I did have a slight issue where the vacuum didn't want to go to the left and contacted customer support--it just required a restart and I haven't had a problem since, but customer service did get back to me in a timely manner.Ok, practical review time.Long Hair: Both myself and my husband have long hair down to the middle of our backs, plus a long haired cat and a short haired dog. I was worried that all this hair would be an issue, and while it could be a huge problem (and has been with other upright vacuums) the Tesvor vacuum is really easy to remove any tangled hair from the brushes and as long as I do this once a month or so it doesn't cause a problem.Throw rugs: If they are stiff.. there is no problem. But if they are the inexpensive, thin or a bit flimsy, this vacuum can get 'stuck' when it goes over a corner and sucks it up--the suction is strong enough that if this happens the vacuum can't pull itself away and it will shut down fairly quickly.Furniture: OMG I can't believe how full the vacuum was after it went under all the furniture. I was amazed. It fits under almost every piece of furniture. It's kind of fun to watch it puzzle out how to get in and out of a tight spot and go around chair legs. We have a small secretaries desk with a chair in front of it. This silly vacuum could have only fit under the desk by accident--there was really that small of an area where it would have fit--but it did, and I watched as it worked it's way back and forth, back and forth until it got it figured out and was off to the next area. We do have one chair that is the perfect height for the unit to lodge itself under one of the rungs. When this happens the unit will try to get out, but if it can't it will make a doorbell chime to alert you and shut down, now I just put this chair up on the table.Cords: Ok, this is a big one. You MUST put up all cords. I had my phone plugged into a long cord and said cord wasn't picked up and the extra length was spilling onto the floor. The vacuum came by and I didn't think anything of it until it sucked up the cord and decided to take my cell phone with it. Pulling it off the coffee table, and dragging it across the floor. The other end of the cord was plugged into my laptop and thankfully I got to to it before it pulled my laptop off too! But just like with throw/area rugs, this can cause it to get stuck and if your cords are behind a large piece of furniture, and the vacuum stuck under the furniture, this could be a pain. Honestly, this is an issue with my not preparing, not the function of the vacuum.Doors--Well, ok, yeah the vacuum will get itself stuck in a room if it hits a door just right and closes it. Yes, mine has locked itself in the spare bedroom and the hall bathroom. The problem is that you get so used to hearing it run, you don't notice that it's stuck right away. But, once the unit realizes it's stuck and can't get out, it will shut down. Again, this is a learning curve for me not the vacuum. Now I know to brace the doors open if I want the rooms swept or close them if I don't. Easy peasy.Carpets--this is a tough one. Like I said above if it's a thin flimsy area rug or throw, the corners can be a problem. If you have a short pile or berber carpet I think this will work fine. We do have carpet in two bedrooms and I forgot to close the door once. It's new carpet so the pile is still pretty high and while it struggled, the vacuum did run. I grabbed it and pulled it out of the room though as soon as I realized where it was because I was terrified it would get stuck under the bed and I wouldn't be able to reach it! But out of a possible 100 points, I'd give this a 97 for hard floors and maybe a 75 -80 for carpets.Run Time-Consistently my vacuum runs for about over an hour at a time to sweep about 1600 sqft and does seem to do the entire area in that time.Ease of emptying and replacing brushes-- this unit is very easy to empty, just push a lever and pull out the catch box. All the brushes just pop off an on so replacing them is super easy--no tools needed. How loud is it?--I do have a decibel meter on my phone, and while wrapping up this review I had an AH HA moment. When I was in the next room and about 12ft away it averages around 32dB (a loud whisper). From about 4ft away it measures about 45-50dB as it's coming and going (a quiet office) and when I set the phone directly onto the top of the unit it was about 60-65db (normal restaurant conversation). But it's a mechanical noise so it does seem louder than these examples somehow. So I'd say by way of example: much more quiet than a normal upright vacuum. Not as loud as my washing machine on spin cycle. No where near as loud as a garbage disposal. So yeah, you hear it, but it's not so loud that it would disrupt a conversation. (If you work from home, you may not want it running while you were on the phone.)I know there are other areas that I should have mentioned, but they aren't coming to mind right now and I think I've hit the ones that were important to me when I was looking. If you have a question that I haven't hit on here, feel free to ask and I'll be happy to let you know what I think. :)All in all I am so very, very happy with my purchase and I would (and have) recommend the Tesvor Robot Vacuum Cleaner to others.

Quiet, Low Profile Vacuum
The media could not be loaded. Update (12.19.18)Location is key! When deciding where to place the charging doc, here are a few things to consider. Where do you want the vacuum to clean first? Which direction do you want your lines in your carpet to be? How open is the area for the charging doc location? Here’s why you need to consider these things. When the vacuum leaves the charger, it backs up, turns around, and drives the opposite direction of the charger until it hits the first obstacle. Then it makes a right turn and begins the “S” shape pattern. If you’re standing in front of the charger facing it, the vacuum will clean everything to your left before it moves to your right. So if you always want one specific area cleaned first (like the kitchen), place the charger at the edge of your kitchen where the vacuum can move to the left (if you’re facing the charger). The vacuum will make it’s lines perpendicular to the wall of the charging doc. So if you want the lines a different direction, choose an adjacent wall for the doc to reside. This isn’t just about lines in the carpet. If you want your vacuum to only make 3-4 turns down the hallway, have it run parallel to the hallway walls. Otherwise it will go back and forth a hundred times making its way slowly down the hallway. How open is the space by your charger? If you can see the charger from multiple angles, so can your vacuum. The more open and visible the charger, the more likely your vacuum will be to finding its “home”. When we first placed the charger, it was in a concealed location. This was great for us but not for the vacuum. It was constantly getting lost. We now have the vacuum charger in a prime location for the vacuum. It may not be as pleasing to us because it’s out in the open but it cleans the most efficient and effective way every time and always finds its home.In conclusion, don’t be afraid to move charging doc multiple times until you find the right location. We’ve now moved the charger location 5 times and it’s running very efficiently!Update (12.13.18):The more I use this vacuum, the better it gets. It doesn’t get stuck under the couch anymore, it navigates the house very efficiently, and it continues to improve its mapping over time. Definitely the best vacuum for its price! I fully recommend this product.Original:As many others mentioned, I’m torn on leaving an overall positive review. There are many pros to this vacuum and a few cons. I’ll list both below referencing the images I’ve attached. I'll move my star ratings up if updates fix the issues I've seen. Here’s a little background before I get into the pros and cons. When my wife and I started our robot vacuum search, we needed two things in specific and wanted a few other things. We needed a low profile vacuum, specifically under 3 inches, so it could go under our kitchen table. We also needed one that was quiet so we could run it while our child was sleeping. We wanted a WiFi enabled device with an app and connection to Alexa. We also wanted one that was reasonably priced and mapped out our house. This one fit that criteria perfectly. So we bought it and have owned it for about two weeks. We have two large areas and two hallways that need to be vacuumed regularly. Those are the kitchen and hallways (hard floors) and the living room (carpeted). In the first attached image, you can see the hallways on the left, the living room in the middle, and kitchen on the right. Here are our thoughts on how things have been over the last two weeks (pros and cons):Pros:- Its very quiet! I was blown away at how quiet yet powerful this vacuum is on the quiet setting. You can increase the power of the fan but that drains your battery faster and doesn't seem necessary.- It fits perfectly under our kitchen table. If you watch the video, you’ll see how it barely fits under the table and does a good job at not getting stuck under there. It finds its way out even tho there’s only two places it could get in/out.- It picks up quite a lot of dust. I empty out the bin about every other run because it’s so full.- You can have scheduled cleanings. We haven’t used this feature yet buts it’s still nice.- As the vacuum is cleaning, you can watch it map out where it's been through the mobile app. This assures you it has cleaned everywhere that is highlighted. There are a few bugs with the mapping that I cover in the cons section.Cons:- It gets lost and can't find its home. Whenever I do the "smart cleaning" mode (aka S mode), it cleans most of the floors but gets confused and has a very difficult time finding it's home. In fact, the only time it finds its home is when I choose the "edge" cleaning mode. This leads to my second con.- Bug in the mapping tech. The first attached picture shows an accurate floor plan of my house. That was the first pass the vacuum made on edge cleaning mode. The second and third pass did not align with the first which confused the vacuum and ultimately made it lose its way. See second picture for details. I think this is why it gets lost with the smart cleaning mode as well. If this vacuum could find its way home amap correctly, it would be the best, least expensive robot vavacuu out there.- This isn't as much of a con but was an annoyance to us. Because the vacuum is so thin, it would constantly get sick halfway under our couches. Most of the time it just bounced off of them but every once in a while it squeezes under and gets stuck. We fixed this by taking off the legs of our couch (see images for details). But now it's weird having a couch 4 inches shorter. The vacuum also gets stuck under the bottom lip of our fridge. Still working on solution for this one.- In summary, this vacuum was everything we wanted on paper, but not in testing. However, it's the Best bang for your buck. Despite its flaws, we're still keeping it in hopes that it learns our floor plan better or receives an update to help it map better and not get lost as much.
