A multifaceted portrayal of a Kolkatta prostitute.
I googled this film after I watched it for the first time and was surprised by the mediocre reviews. I think it it was clearly made and depicted the complications in the battle against child trafficking. It also revealed a multidimensional character, Lakshmi who is enjoying the little moments of childhood such as water balloon fights with condoms, while still very much surviving in a brothel. Thankfully this tale has a fulfilling ending as the resilient Lakshmi making her way to Hope House, and then giving information to authorities so the others can be rescued as well. It's haunting that in reality this is rare, but I like to stick to a happier ending. I'm giving it only 4 instead of 5 stars because I found the acting of the rescuing characters to fall a little flat for some reason.

Well done movie (spoiler alert)
Although this is heartbreaking, I love the fact that the character Lakshmi triumphs. Having lived in India.I can say that this was an excellent depiction of an Indian city. The holidays are celebrated in the streets for the most part with crowds of people and the chilies are hot. The movie gets 5 stars for the acting, the cinematography and the verisimilitude of the story. Please don't pay attention to those comments who bashed the silly songs in the end. There are silly songs in every culture.

A touching truth!
This was a great movie that gives us a vague idea of the reality of what these victims experience. There were a few "low budget" aspect of it, but I think that the entire cast did amazing considering that they were trying to stay as true to these types of circumstances as possible. And the "low budget" aspect isn't deserving of a negative review because it kind of adds to the perception that we are given. Plus, the environment fit that of the "low budget" life. Yes, sometime we hear of stories where these things take place in a more wealthy area, but regardless of where or who or how, they are deplorable acts that destroy the joy in the lives of its victims.

For a message movie,
"Sold" was quite gripping. To begin with, I appreciated the authentic and respectful portrayal of Nepal and Nepalese and the authenticity of the depiction of India and Indians as well. The girl who played Lakshmi had the Nepalese softness though from Assam. The positive impressions fell apart towards the end and the credits, with the amateurish musical choices; it was a mess. Other than that - very effective and I hope it helps.

Slow starter but stick with it
Glad I did. Rather simplistic depiction but very affecting story. The girl is very likable and it physically hurts to see her abused. Much better movie than others of the same genre. (Sad that it is even a genre.) Others I've watched were salacious or overly preachy. Don't preach to me, tell a good story. That's what this movie does. My only nitpicks would be that most of the characters were too pretty, Bollywood style, and the silliness of having everyone speak English. Other than that.

Four and a half
I was glad to see Jillian Anderson. I haven’t seen her in some time. Her character added a sense of hopefulness to an awful condition. “Sold” is difficult to watch. Yes, it is ‘just a movie’ but it tells a relevant story about the dark, the very dark, side of humanity. If it hurts your heart, so much the better. Watch it and tell others to watch it. I know, I know. We can’t save them all. Can we save one?

I loved the movie and I'm sad it happens to such young girls
This movie is a must see to understand what money does to poor people. It robs them of their children and robs the children of a life. In 3rd world countries it's a hard life to live when you can't even afford a pair of shoes.Liked all the actresses and actors, they did a super job telling this story. The sad thing is it happens all the time, even in NYC men like Epstein and his BFF auction off virgins and the men do whatever they hell they want to them. The elite, entitled, wealthy 1% of men are dangerous. Money lets them get away with murder.
