Don Troiani's Soldiers of the American Revolution

Great book and pictures.

Throughly enjoyed the artwork and artifacts. The historical information was excellent.

This book is a must-own for anyone who loves military relics and American Revolutionary War history. If you're a fan of military artist Don Troiani, (I am), that's icing on the cake.There are other military uniform and artifact books that cover the Civil War, Span Am and the World Wars. It is comparatively easy to locate uniforms, weapons and artifacts from these later conflicts. It is much harder to find artifacts, especially cloth uniforms, from this era, now over 220 years ago. I had to put a towel across my chest to catch the drool from ogling these beautiful pictures. Mr. Kochan provides clear, informative text.If you reenact this period, this will back up your claims for how stuff really was made or looked..It's like bringing together the best from all the museums and private collections. What could be better?

Softcover version: Beautiful, accurate, colorful artwork. Excellent photos of original artifacts. Examines British, Hessian, Loyalist, and Patriot uniforms and equipment. Excellent information in the accompanying text.

I will start with what this book is not. It is not a book of plates detailing the uniforms of American and British units involved in the AWI. If that is the sort of book you need, this is not for you, instead you might want to try Mollo's book on Uniforms of the American Revolution instead. However, this book does have some great pictures of some artifacts from that time, and interesting stories of these artifacts, along with scenes from some of Don Troiani's paintings of events in the AWI.

I enjoyed this book for Mr. Troiani's illustrated artwork. It gives renderings of the diversity of uniforms and equipment used by the American and British forces during the AWI. Also included in this book are photographs of actual pieces (arms, clothing, equipment) that are in the author's and others private collections. I've long been a fan of Mr. Troiani's artwork, his action art give you feel that you are on the field.

Very happy with this product ! For a soft cover USED edition it is in pristine condition ! The contents of the book itself are very informative and make you want to keep reading.

A wonderful gallery of accurately painted forces of the Revolutionary War era including Loyalists & German hired troops as well as weapons & artifacts. All that seemed to be "missing" might be the 1st Continental Light Dragoons or the Continental Marines. It was also great to see that for the first time since John Mollo's 1976 Uniforms of the American Revolution the uniform of the 2nd Continental Light Dragoons correctly depicted with white facings as opposed to the inaccurate buff color.

This is a very useful volume mixing the art of Don Troiani with helpful photographs of historical items still in existence. Battle and uniform portraits can easily suffer from the "full dress and clean" treatment that disguises the difficulties of campaign living in the open air. This is especially so in this war where both sides had considerable supply problems and had to make and match; and both exhibited the healthy refusal to conform. To this end I found the "purple" uniform of Lee's Legion most educational. Troiani's work is, as ever, beautifully executed and is enhanced by sitting alongside the artifacts of the actual soldiers.

I find Don Troiani's books are generally well illustrated and complemented by informative text and this in no exception.Along with Troiani's art work there are a number of other illustrations such as badges, buckles, coins, firearms and garments that along with the accompanying text make this a very good reference.
