Thanks Ziwi Pets!
FINALLY - a wet cat food with NO: Carrageenan, Sodium Selenite, Menadione (synthetic vitamin K), Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate (tspp), copper sulfate, Agar Agar, Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum, Locust Bean Gum, Sunflower Seed Oil, Canola Oil, Olive Oil, Tapioca Starch, Corn, Rice, Soy, Potatoes, Meals, Animal By-Products, etc., etc. These are ALL pet food ingredients/chemicals linked to cancer, organ/CNS damage, food allergies/intolerances and GI disturbances. The ingredients and chemicals that some pet food manufacturers put in our petsโ food is both atrocious and shameful. Anyway, I have been feeding the wet rabbit and lamb formula to my cats (new formula - did not like some ingredients in the old formula) for a little over a month now. At first introduction, neither cat was remotely interested. I was disappointed as I wanted them to immediately dig in. Determined to make it a part of their diet, I started mixing a tiny bit (teaspoon) in their current food, increasing gradually over the weeks. Both now are eating a full can at breakfast and seem to really enjoy. I may replace some of their other meals with this as well, but will wait a little longer to decide. One thing I will note is that my one cat seems to have developed very hard/dry stools since increasing the intake of this food. I am not positive yet, but I do suspect itโs related to something in the food. I suspect it may be from the bone or chickpeas? I am not too concerned yet, as he was going the other way (loose stools/diarrhea) from eating Weruva. Speaking of the chickpeasโฆI know that others have mentioned a dislike for the chickpeas (I get it). But there has to be SOME type of โbinderโ for the food. Alternatives binders are Carrageenan, Agar Agar, Starches, Grains, Gums โ all of which are linked to cancer, allergies and GI upset. Soโฆchickpeas please and thank you! Anyway, I am very happy with this food and am so glad it is available. Is it expensive? Totally. But I am more than willing to pay a higher price for quality ingredients (not sourced from China) for my cats. This is, by far, the best food that I have found with regard to the ingredient list. If there is something better or โas goodโ out there I would love to know (as I do believe in a rotational diet simply b/c I donโt trust ANY pet food manufacturer). If you are reading Ziwi, thank you for providing a quality product and for also listening to customer feedback! I can see from some other reviews that some customers are unhappy with your recent formula change, but in looking at your prior ingredients you made a change for the better! Usually when cat food formulas change, they seem to change for the worse (Iโm looking at you Tiki Cat). Also, if you are listening, I do wish you would offer an all poultry or all rabbit option. Or even poultry and rabbit combo. I donโt feed my cats fish and would like another option, with no red meat. Finally, a lot of the cans in my order had large dents (5/12) and I won't feed my cats food from dented cans...Based on the way my package came I feel like they were damaged on manufacturer's end vs. Amazon or during shipment. Amazon was kind enough to help me out with this.

Great for Healthy Cats-Pure Animal Protein with Vitamins Next Best to Home Made
Updated review to cover the newly available beef food. It is less expensiveThis review covers all three available flavors of cat food sold by ZiwiPeak. So far this is the only commercial cat food that is pure animal protein with vitamins and minerals. So far all other cat food are loaded with grain (which is a major no-no for cats). Those other cat foods that are claim to be grain free, are loaded with pea protein or bananas. I used to make my own cat food, and I would continue to do so if it weren't for ZiwiPeak. Like the other reviewer, my cats have gorgeous coats, and robust health. Yes this food is expensive for three cats, but I manage costs to some extend by mixing the canned ZiwiPeak with the dried ZiwiPeak (which is technically raw food because of the low drying temperature). The food is so dense and rich with the proper nutrients, that I can feed my mature cats with less than the recommended amounts of food. I have weighed them carefully, vigilantly checked for any signs of malnutrition. My cats have retained a healthy weight, and the vet has commended their obvious health, so I continue to "underfeed" a bit with the combination. According to studies, many of the chronic illnesses experienced by cats today are the result of feeding food filled with grains, so I am saving substantially on vet bills and medications.

Species Appropriate Diet and an ideal choice if your cat won't eat raw
After stumbling on Dr. Lisa Pierson's site "CatInfo.Org" I gained a real eye-opening experience into why main stream cat food was not working for my kitties. ZiwiPeak is a very expensive and premium cat food- a Species Appropriate Diet food, which in my opinion is worth it. There are no fillers unless you get the old recipe that has carrageenan in it, which has been replaced with guar gum. It is one of the highest pure, high quality protein foods on the market with organs, bone, New Zealand green mussel plus vitamins and minerals. I had been interested in putting my cats on a raw food, species appropriate diet but was unsure if investing in the grinder & supplements was the best way to go. Instead, I purchased a premium frozen raw food from Feline's Pride which was major expensive after shipping, which kitty pretty much rejected right away; I was never able to ease him into it. I ended up giving it away to friend with a young kitty who is delighted- AND THRIVING- on it. Still being passionate about getting my obese cat on proper food, we tried multiple flavors of ZiwiPeak & this is the 1 he likes. Because it has bones in it, it can cause constipation in some cats so you have to work around that. It's also high in phosphorus so if you have a cat with renal disease, use caution, not good for advanced CRF. Since it has no carbs, his weight is coming steadily down, as long as I can keep him out of the Friskies kitty crack the old cat will only eat!

Do NOT feed to cats! Life threatening! Stop!
This is NOT amazons fault. This is a ziwi issue. I recently read complaints and decided to check out myself. Ever can I open has tiny pieces of glass sharp bone!! Hereโs a few โbigger piecesโ one piece even cut me and gave me a splinter. Imagine what this could do to your catโs intestinal tract. Not worth it. There are soooo tiny and slick right they your skin. I wrote them a email. They were recently bought out by a different company possibly why the quality is no longer.

Good quality cat food with no grains
Since there have only been two reviews on this so far I feel I must write comment b/c the numbers are skewed with one person hating Ziwipeak and another loving it;) My cat loves Ziwipeak and I went to great effort to get this to him, despite the cost. I have mixed feelings about this food because it doesnโt have everything Iโd like out of a cat food (but I havenโt found one company that doesโฆyet) but my cat really enjoys it and it is a higher quality cat food. The pros about this cat food: high quality (it smells fresh and I havenโt had a can with discolorations or anything suspicious), itโs a pate thatโs mostly meat (so you donโt see chunks of other stuff like you may with other brands), and most importantly--there are no grains! Itโs low in carbohydrates; according to Ziwipeakโs website itโs only 1.5% carbs, and if you read the ingredients they are mostly meat and then vitamins/minerals. The meat is free of antibiotics and hormones. And there are no artificial colors or preservatives. The ingredients are from New Zealand. This may not be a pro if youโre looking for U.S. meat (in which case I suggest Hound and Gatos), but the rabbit isnโt sourced from China (like Natureโs Variety). The cons: price! On Amazon it comes to $3.25/can, which is steep considering it has carrageenan. Though, Iโve seen it more expensive elsewhere. That leads me to the biggest con--it has carrageenan! Carrageenan has been linked to suppressing the immune system and inflaming intestinal lining; and I wish companies would just stop using it as the risks outweigh the benefits (of a slightly fluffier pate). My cat has IBD, so he already has inflamed bowels and Iโve been seeking companies that donโt use carrageenan. My feline has several brands of no-grain food to choose from, but lately prefers the rabbit & lamb Ziwipeak. Since my cat is ill and not eating well I have bought Ziwipeak from a couple of different online companies because my goal currently is to get non-grain/low carb calories into his body. After heโs gotten pass this inflamed bout I will go back to the carrageenan free kinds (or raw. Iโve really been looking at a raw diet b/c it seems to help IBD cats, but thatโs another tangent.) ---UPDATE 9/7/16--NO MORE CARAGEENAN! I didn't realize this review was sitting out here with info on carageenan until someone reminded me. I still buy ZiwiPeak on a semi-regular basis and there hasn't been carageenan in it for awhile. So, yay! Other things to consider: There are bones in this food. I was alarmed to find my cat chewing a flat (pencil eraser-sized) bone, but after speaking with my vet and doing research on BARF diets I realize that bone isnโt something Iโm going to concern myself with because a.) The food wasnโt cooked so the bone isnโt brittle, and b.) If I move my cat to a raw diet Iโd want the bone anyway. I only mention this as a consideration if your cat has a health ailment where bones shouldnโt be consumed. This flavor is a mixed protein, so if youโre seeking a can with one protein this isnโt it. (Some IBD cat owners look for one protein source.) My cat loves rabbit and weโve tried several brands of rabbit. For some reason he really loves this brand. Itโs mixed with lamb, but my cat likes lamb too. If youโre looking for fast delivery donโt do the free shipping on Amazon with this. While I found Amazon to be slightly cheaper this order took longer to ship than Chewy and Pet360, so donโt order this in a frantic state hoping it would arrive soon (like I did). Give yourself amble time for delivery, pay extra for quicker delivery, or go with a company that delivers faster. If youโre leery of buying a case because of the price I recommend checking out Only Natural Pet, where you can buy by the can. Itโs even more expensive but you can find out if your cat likes Ziwipeak and then order a case from Amazon, or elsewhere depending on who has what deals that day;).

My cat is obsessed with ZIWI and so am I
My headline basically says it all! My cat eats his ZIWI within 2 minutes of me setting down his plate. He loves all the flavors, with the mackerel and the lamb and mackerel being his favorites. And I love how wholesome the ingredients are, with no grains and plenty of the good stuff - meat, organs, and bones! I used to have my cat on a completely raw diet that I made myself, but for convenience's sake, ZIWI has gained a loyal customer. Yes, it's expensive, but for my cat's health and exceptionally shiny coat, it's more than worth it.

Disappointing
I've been searching frantically for a food that is human-grade and biologically appropriate for my cat. I'd cook for him myself but he's such a picky eater that whatever I cook goes in the trash. He only nibbles on it. So my searches got me to this product. When I opened and warmed it up it smelled fresh lamb. This indicates good meat not by-products. My cat also seems to.like the taste. So kudos on the recipe. ๐ But then I found tens of bone shards in the food as seen in the photo. This really upset me. These bone fragments can scratch the gums or throats if accidentally swallowed. I have to be very careful searching for these fragments everytime. Not ok!! ๐ For the price and claim of high quality, there shouldn't be bone fragments in the food. Especially for my toothless senior cat. I would advise thinking twice before paying a hefty amount over this product. You may end up paying some more for tooth repairs and/or intestinal treatments.

My very picky cat really likes this product. I chose it for its ingredients and lack of unnecessary additives. I would definitely recommend it.
