Great Seeds
The Green grew like gangbusters. The red were slower going and less hardy but still worked great. Start in a pot and transplant at the 1 inch mark.

6 green sprouted, zero red sprouted
6 of the green shiso seeds sprouted, zero of the red seeds sprouted. Planted at different times across 3 months in sterile medium, in a sterile growing frame inside of a structure, not outdoors. The 6 that did sprout didn't survive long after. I'm not a beginner gardener, so this feels very strange. Tried to contact support, but the links did not work for me. The return window should be longer than one month.

shiso is good
The combo pack was a good idea. However, the Green shiso sprouted and is growing well. Im getting all I need. On the other hand. The red did nothing. No sprouts. no life. Nothing showing at all. Planted some of each color in the garden and in starter pots. The green is doing well both in the garden and in the started pots. It is over 2 inches tall. June 10, 2022 The red shiso is a no show. Nothing. The red color is what I wanted the most. We make tea from the leaves as a drink. So sad..

600 Seeds, ZERO germination!!!
I grow shiso every year next to my basil in the garden. They're quite similiar in their germination, growth pattern, and needs. I always start them in seedling trays, lightly pressing them into the soil and gently watering them in. I collect seeds in our garden. I had a few shiso seeds from last season. All of them came up. All of my basil came up. All of my herbs sprouted/germinated except these seeds! Not even one Shiso plant from 600 seeds! Now the thing with Shiso, is their seed doesn't really germinate past a year. I know from experience. I've come to the conclusion that these are very old seeds. Don't waste your time or money. I'm very disappointed! Btw there was no date on the seeds package, which I found strange, as I've purchased Botanical Interest Brand Seeds before, and they have a Season Date printed on the packs.

A little reluctant to germinate ...
So far my experience has been that these are a little picky in their germinating conditions. Sowing them on top of the soil (like other mints) and keeping them moist will result in some germinating plants, eventually, with the red being significantly less successful than green. Really, they should germinate at over 50%, so I'm going to try starting some more with a presoak in 3% hydrogen peroxide (plain water would probably do), then started under a clear lid in moderate conditions, with an occasional spray of fungicide. Anyway if you get even one or two to grow, unless you were planning to grow shiso commercially, you'll have as much as you can use, and possibly a problem down the road, as this is yet another aggressively invasive mint that you'll not struggle to have enough of. Note: Shiso/perilla is (quite!) toxic to cattle and other livestock, even goats and horses, so don't get it in your pasture or your neighbor's. It shouldn't bother your cats and dogs though.

Green shiso great, red not so much
Green shiso sprouted well, red shiso not a single one (from 2 separate plantings).
