It really does help!
Okay. I'll admit it, I was skeptical when I threw this into the cart on what was mostly a whim but, after multiple rounds of trying different types of braces for my injury, I was getting a little desperate. Whether or not a brace actually works though is highly dependent on a thousand little factors and, unfortunately, it was proving very difficult for me to find one. That said, here's the details:I have a mild clubbed foot that responded to treatment in my childhood beautifully. Even my HUSBAND has trouble telling/remembering which one it is so I don't think that it'll affect whether or not this brace will work for someone else with a similar injury but it DID leave me with two things that made me try it:1) I have wide and flat feet that will NOT let me use "arch supports" of ANY kind without excruciating pain and 2) I have a seriously weak ankles and an Achilles tendon that loves to get pulled RIGHT above my heel for that "wonderful" sharp, jabbing pain if I walk or stand too much. And, yeah, both issues are getting worse as I'm getting older. This last time, I was laid up for MONTHS so, my podiatrist gave me a choice: either find something currently on the market that would work for me or he'd set me up with some expensive custom brace that from the description would make me look like my parents thought polio vaccinations were optional.Yeah, I've been trying just about everything I can find and I bet anyone else would too. ;)All that said, here's how the brace has been working for me this last week:It looks WEIRD when it's not on you- so, expect a bit of a learning curve!Out of the box, it's this weird strappy thing that it's still taking me a little while to figure out how to put on correctly. Almost all of it works on applying the proper tensions at the right places to both keep it on and help support that tendon at the back of your heel so I do still need to fiddle with it here and there some days. It's amazingly comfortable! When I DO have it on correctly, it is super comfy! I can completely forget that it's there so, yeah, it gets worn a lot more often then every other brace I've tried. I believe it's BECAUSE it's dependent on simple tension in all the right places and nothing else, this means that it's highly adjustable so it still works if my foot swells up and also lets me keep the part that goes over the foot fairly loose so there's not too much tension across it.It works with almost every shoe I own!I'm female. I wear a LOT of different kinds of shoes: tennis shoes, sneakers, boots, sandals- I even go barefoot a lot and, I've been able to comfortably wear this under almost all of them. The only unfortunate exception is my heavy duty, combat style work boots. Now, it FITS inside of the work boots but, something about that particular pair compresses my foot a little so the little padded part of the brace under my foot just feels a little uncomfortable. Still, since I CAN easily wear it for hours in every other shoe I've got, I really don't think that's the brace's fault- it's just a weird thing about that particular pair of boots and something about how my foot's shaped (which again, isn't fully normal despite appearances). Besides, I live in the SW United States so, if I can wear it with my sandals (and I can) then, I'm happy. :DThe majority of the support is on that tendon. There IS a little ankle support but yeah, the majority of the support/compression is on that Achilles tendon right at the base of the foot which, for me, is absolutely perfect.Net result/ TL:DRThis thing adjusts in just about every direction imaginable so it's going to be a little fiddly at first but, because it adjusts in just about every direction imaginable, once you figure out how it best fits you it's going to be extraordinarily comfortable and versatile and wearable with a wide variety of footwear.Anyway, this has been a wonderful brace for me and I honestly hope it helps someone else with similar issues so I have tried to be as absolutely detailed as possible in this review. Either way, if you're reading this, it means that you've got pain and I really hope you find something that works for you soon. Thanks.
