Alpaca Keeping Raising Alpacas – Step by Step Guide Book… farming, care, diet, health and breeding

This book was very informative and perfect for any person with no background in farming who plans to start an alpaca farm. This book should be one of the first additions to the resource library for that purpose. It is easy to read for someone with no background, I love the glossary in the back and the amount of additional resources provided for both the US and the UK. It is clear that the author has a genuine excitement for raising these animals and his excitement is passed along to the reader. It is an easy read and easy to understand. I would have liked to have seen more reference photos- but overall the book provides the reader with nearly every piece of information a farmer could need to get started with this farm. I give him 5 stars for that.

A basic book with good ideas. I gave it to my wife as a gift.

I found this book very informative, and easy to read, and would be a very good tool for anyone interested in raising alpacas; or simply for anyone who wants to learn more about alpacas. It began with their history and origin, then goes into the different types and colors of alpacas, and even their closest “relatives,” so to speak. I learned about the differences between the Huacaya and Suri alpacas; their fleece; how to feed and care for the different types; their body types; adaptability to weather; housing; healthcare; their unique characteristics; what it would cost to become an alpaca farmer, etc. Needless to say, this book was very informative, and would be a good addition to any library.

I agree with other reviews which say the information is just too general. I definitely did learn some stuff, but I still feel like I’m missing a lot of specific information to actually get started keeping alpacas. I appreciate the list of breeders, however I don’t know how accurate it still is more than 10 years later. Overall, I think the book should be cheaper for what it is, but it’s a nice little resource to have.

I have no interest in raising Alpacas. But I am an avid knitter and wanted to learn more about the animals behind one of my favorite fibers. I found the book very interesting and fun to read

Just starting out and needed to get up to speed quickly. Easy read and lots of great information!! Key points on what to do before you even buy alpacas! Can’t buy just one when starting out!!

I'm new in alpacas, but Very experienced in horse keeping, conditioning and campaigning. I'm very very disappointed by this book. Half of the book contains an extensive list of US breeders. I was looking for drawings or pictures about the conformation of alpacas, about the way to handle them, etc. Really not interesting! Returned to amazon

Interesting and informative for anyone wanting to keep alpacas

The book arguably is an introduction to keeping alpacas and contains some general information in this regard. Yet, it remains very much on the surface of things as does not get into detail at all. About one third of the book's pages are dedicated to a "link collection" of alpaca breeders in the US and do not contain any substance whatsoever. Moreover, the information provided is superficial at best and could probably be compiled in an afternoon spent on internet research. Not worth it, unfortunately...
