Excellent!
I buy Dona Maria paste here in Tucson often. I sent this to a family member in OR. They loved 'my' chicken mole recipe! A big hit!

Not too good
Did not like the taste at all and too thick. I think homemade is better. I bought the boxer package but did not eat the second one. Bought the glass jar later at the grocery store but was not better. The glass jarred sauce was extremely thick and congealed. I did not bother to eat it after tasting a bit of it. Sorry. I’ll make my own sauce.

Very Basic. Suitable As A Base For Your Own Version Of Mole.
Compared to the Rogelio Bueno brand of ready-to-serve mole sauce, Doña María is very basic and very bland. Although all pre-packaged moles can benefit from some "improvements," the Rogelio Bueno ready-to-serve can actually stand on its own as a decent mole sauce without additional doctoring. The Doña Maria really doesn't. It's a perfectly good base for building a mole sauce of your own, if you have an idea of what you want your finished sauce to be like. The color and texture are fine. To taste like the real thing, it definitely needs add-ins and some cooking/simmering to blend all the flavors. Everyone has favorite mole seasonings, but you can definitely add cinnamon, allspice, and ginger, for starters. Some additional chile powder if you like more heat (this is very mild). Some peanut butter, almond butter, or tahini will greatly improve this. Ditto for a touch of orange flavor (zest, juice, extract) and anise. Mole is not supposed to be a sweet sauce, but it should have a hint of sweetness. Doña Maria is less sweet than the Rogelio Bueno sauce, so it could use a bit of sweetener (to taste). I would summarize by saying that Doña Maria is good if you want a base on which to build your own version of Mole Poblano. Rogelio Bueno is the better choice if you want something you can use straight out of the box, although it, too, can be used as a base. It just needs less than Doña Maria.
