From the crazed madman of the macabre, late splatter movie pioneer Herschell Gordon Lewis (Blood Feast, Two Thousand Maniacs!), comes his most fiendish feat of terrifying onscreen trickery yet - behold, The Wizard of Gore! You've all seen the trick in which the magician saws his glamorous assistant in half - but what about the spike through the brain gag? Or the good old smashing punch-press?Montag the Magnificent's blood-curdling onstage performances shock and dazzle his audiences in equal measure. But when his participants start winding up dead, local TV talk show hostess Sherry Carson suspects his gruesome act may be more sinister than it first seems... Lewis' blood-soaked career, The Wizard of Gore is a stomach-churning, Grand Guignol production that's less sleight of hand and more slice of hand!!! This movie is amaze balls. What else can I say? Please keep in mind that it is from 1970. But if you love B movies, or the classics, you will enjoy this one.

So terrible it's amazing.
I have not and will never understand this movie, but it is so grindhouse there's no reason not to like it. The cinematography is awful, the acting is over the top, and the story is so confusing but it kept me hooked for the hour and a half that this runs for.

My all time fave HGL movie
If you want bad acting, cheap blood (but gallons of it!) and thin plots with some footage thrown in that has nothing to do with the rest of the movie...get any Herschell Gordon Lewis movie! But let me tell ya...if you have a six pack and watch this stuff with some friends you will laugh your butt off. It's plain fun and its from the guy who invented gore so its also historical. You can't beat hysterical and historical!

Gory good fun
It's a fun movie with bad acting lots of gore and the comentary is also fun , so if you like politically non correct , with a genius " Hershal gordon Lewis " who was never afraid to break the rules and push the envelope of low budget horror then start watching this one and collect more from this Master of gore !

so dreadful it is a masterpiece
There must be hundreds of films that are made on a shoe string budget and shown only at "drive-ins" do such things still exist? or turn up on late night cable channels, and this is probably one of them.Yet somebody somewhere thought this was a good idea for a film and went ahead with the scripting casting filming editing and producing. The film is so poorly edited that it would be laughable if it was not so charmingly and lovingly made. The acting is like a showcase in poor acting but as in all films of this genre that somehow adds to the enjoyment. The scenery doesnt quite fall over!Having said all this I have to admit that the grisly showtime murders on the stage in the theatre in front of an audience of actors who are so bad they can not even do sitting still very well, are of an oddly real quality that gives the film a chilling edge that true splatter fans will recognise and enjoy. The viewing was not a wasted 90 minutes of my life since it impelled me to take time to write this review!!

a very strange film
if you dont like low budget films with appalling acting and dire effects then stear clear of this, it has the worst acting i've ever seen and it's look reminded me of one of those old cinema adverts from the seventies. so whats good about this film? its really odd, surreal, at times funny and tells an interesting and bizzare story. in a few places i thought it was going to turn into a porno. there is a real mounting feeling of dread when montag is performing onstage and its rather gruesome too, so dont watch this whilst having your tea. if i paid more than a couple of quid for this i would've felt as gutted as one of the girls in the film, but i didnt and i actually quite enjoyed it.

Wizard of Bore more like ....
OK so these films may be the precursor of what we regard as horror movies today, but let me tell you this is seriously bad. I was directed to it through "Juno", where the prospective father and Juno are debating the relative merits of Dario Argento vs Herschel Gordon Lewis. There is no comparison. I have most of DA's early movies, I will not be buying any more HGL. For me, the fact that HGL is now running a marketing company speaks volumes. W of G reminds me of those 60's commercials for fairy liquid or secondhand cars, there are no redeeming qualities to write about whatsoever, its 90 minutes of utter nonsense and I think pure commercial exploitation. Fortunately I paid a minimum price for WofG, so I don't feel too bad about having wasted money on this dvd. I think if HGL occupies any place in the pantheon of horror, its probably in the wastebasket.
