The connector was much better than the old one. Wiring is relatively easy to connect securely. Only issue is fitting a weather boot for wet marine environments. It was difficult to find one that fits this connector that is much longer than its predecessor.

Hubble could be considered the Gold Standard for electrical connectors, although they do tend to cost a little more. "California Style" just means the female half has a pin protruding from the center of the connector that fits into a hole in the center of the male half (counter-intuitive, I know). This is an improvement said to have been developed by the motion picture industry to aid in quickly mating the two halves together, and helping to maintain a secure connection as cords are routinely dragged around the set.Many generators like the Honda EB12D with a 50 amp output use this style, and high quality cords like Southwire also use it. The ground connection on this connector comes through the outer shell on the female half, and is transferred to the male half through a sturdy metal tab on the male end. This is often the weak part on cheaper connectors, where it sometimes prevents the two halves from fitting together, or gets damaged when people try to force it.
