Panacea Products 46-Inch Forged Double Adjustable Deck Hook, Black

I purchased this item so that I could hang a flower basket from it on our deck. I actually bought two of these and accompanying 14" Panacea baskets (which are nice).Let me say the one nice thing about this hook is that it looks good. Ok so on to the flaws:1) This is a two sided hook. One is off the main shaft and curves at the top for hanging something. No problem here. Now the other hook slides into some brackets on the main shaft and has no pin or set screw or other device to hold it in place other than gravity.2) This will not support unequal loads without bending. Meaning: We wanted to place a basket (maybe 5 lbs or less) on one side and a solar lantern (1 lb) on the other side and this deflects (bends) greatly. It's not going to break but it looks horrible and makes one question it's integrity during a storm. This matters when your deck is one story up and you live in a townhouse and god knows who might walk beneath it.3) The "clamp" provided to tighten down on your deck railing is by far the worst part of this item. a) As you tighten it down on the railing, the weak steel will deflect so as not to apply enough clamping pressure to keep this thing from falling off the railing. b) The screw assembly which you turn to tighten down on the railing has a swivel plate on the top of it for clamping to the railing. The swivel plate is the interface point between railing and Panacea hook and it's very slippery. There are no "teeth" or other high friction coating to aid the clamp from falling off the railing.I should have returned these knowing what I know now but I like problem solving. I have purchased about $50 of 1/2" diameter black pipe fittings which I will mount to the deck balusters. I will then just drop this down through the top of the pipe.If you like problem solving, then go ahead and purchase this chinese crap, otherwise I suggest you look elsewhere or build your own which I've practically done now.

For Those Who Want Some Detail: Can this be the same design as those who pan this hanger? The one that I received is very sturdily built and should be unaffected by wet weather. It is formed from 3/8" X 3/8" square forged iron, with a powdered black finish. The overall length is about 4 feet. This can be easily adjusted over a range of at least 1 foot by using a convenient locking thumb screw. The U shaped mounting bracket will accept rails from approximately 1 inch to 4 inches (of course, use a very solid mounting rail). Mounting is accomplished by using a long threaded 1/4" diameter ring- bolt having a pressure plate termination (see picture). Both clamping screws appear to be chrome plated. However, for outdoor use it is probably wise to smear a little light grease (Vaseline should do) on the threaded portion of the screws. Note that the second hanger can be easily removed by simply sliding it upwards from the two mounting fixtures. The weight of the hanging object securely holds it in place. I am not sure of the maximum weight that this hanger is meant to hold. Bird feeders and humming bird nectar devices and most hanging flower baskets or pots and more, should be easily accommodated without noticeable bending of the main support. If this is the sort of thing that you are looking for then BUY this fine Panacea product!

I had a real hard time mounting this on a 2" steel rail. The mounting base comes with a steel plate that swivels and that is the problem. As you tighten the base plate wants to pivot and walk off center and that causes you to loose contact on all four corners. Thus loosing your solid mount and the Deck Hook falling off. It took many attempts to finely get the mount to stay put and get a solid mount. Also you need a balanced load on the hooks or the pole will tilt to one side and fall over and off your deck. So you cant have a heavy bird feeder on one side and a lite hummer feeder on the other side. Also a bird seed feeder will hang over you deck and leave a mess on you deck of used seed casing on you deck to clean up every day. This product is hard to review. The product itself is great, just what I was looking for. It comes with a really large clamp to fit any deck railing. I like that the height is adjustable depending what you are hanging from the hooks. Now for the bad part. It came out of the box in poor condition. It is very scratched and in need of a paint job or it will rust. I believe I will keep even though Amazon is very good about returns. It is easier for me to go out and buy a can of spray paint.

I ordered 2 of these for my deck. One is just fine with two handing baskets on each side, but the other bends severely when you put a plant on both side of the hook. I am certain if I actually left a basket on both sides the pole would snap. I am giving a 3 star review for the hit-or-miss construction of this product.As an aside, I saw a similar product recently at Lowe's for much cheaper - I will be trying that next time.

I just put this deck hook up about ten days ago. The C-clamp is capable of attaching to my deck railing without damaging it. The pole from which the hooks hang is square; it is notched in several places near the bottom so that you can adjust the height to your liking. You do have to be sure to get the horizontal screw INTO one of those notches, or the post will slip. My only suggestion for improvement would be to have a round post rather than a square one, but that's a minor quibble, especially given the excellent price for this item. I will very likely be buying a second one.Edit: I just got a second hook, and I'm very pleased with it. For the price, it's an excellent product.

Read the reviews so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was looking for a holder to use with a small bird feeder. For my needs, this is a good product for the price. I wish someone would come up with a two prong holder that holds them both over the side of the deck so the debris falls on the ground. On this holder, I put the humming bird feeder on the side over the deck as long as people are not walking around to smack their head on it.

Arrived in a timely manner, very beautiful. I was only using it for my hummingbird feeders, but recently put a bird feeder filled with seeds onto it and it bent slightly, so I would recommend not putting anything too heavy onto it.

This arrived with only one hook. There is a slot to put the second arm in, but there was no arm or second hook in the box.
