The Mould King W16 Engine Model Kit is a 955-piece, motorized building set that replicates the complex mechanics of a supercar W16 engine. Designed for ages 14 and up, it features transparent parts to showcase piston and valve movements, comes with detailed 3D instructions, and requires 6 AAA batteries to operate. Ideal for STEM education and mechanical enthusiasts seeking a challenging, dynamic model-building experience.

Really solid motor
This was my third motor from this brand, second of this size. The build is actually rock solid for me, I was concerned that with the amount of system bricks paired with technic pieces, there would be some fragility, but the final product is super solid. Detail wise its pretty good, and the colors really POP in person, especially the platinum (that's what they call it) metal finished pipe work. I HATED attaching the motor assembly - make sure when building that you get all pins to have the same orientation, it will help you out so much later on. I put this together in a couple of hours, while watching TV, not a huge time investment.

Quick, fun build
This was my second Mould King build and it did not disappoint. There are several pieces I had not seen before, which can be fun to discover. I built the whole kit in two evenings, but could've easily packed it into a single one if I was in a hurry. The Mould King kits have generally-excellent instructions with high quality color printing. The plastic bags the parts come in are very heavy duty, so I've never had an issue where parts are loosely bouncing around in the box. I finished the kit with just a single missing piece, but it was a small, minor one.I find the very bright silver color that Mould King uses to pretty awesome looking.. better than the equivalent Lego color. I did find this kit to have some pieces that were a little too loose-fitting. It wasn't a problem until the last 1/4 or so of the build where some stuff started to come loose and fall apart. I had to handle things carefully from that point to the end to prevent it from disassembling itself.I didn't realize from the product description that the kit is actually motorized. There's a small power pack that holds 6 AAA batteries and connects to a very powerful electric motor to drive the W16 engine. The tolerances of the kit are nice and well-aligned, so the motor spins very smoothly when powered in either direction. Then engine itself is a W16, which if you know about cars, you know what it's referring to. I wouldn't call it a replica though.. it's more like "inspired by" the original. The building techniques are very similar to all engines I've built with the Lego supercar technics kits. If you enjoy building those engines, you'll enjoy this one!

Tons of details, but some questionable design choices.
This was mostly a fun build. I've done quite a few sets with moving engine parts, but this was the easiest, or at least it had the clearest instructions, so far. The engine itself is quite sturdy, but the external hardware didn't always want to stay on during the build. But once, together, everything moved smoothly, and held together, with the attached motor running. It was curious that a good handful of the pieces where actually two piece that connect to make, what in my opinion, is just a standard piece, so I don't quite understand the purpose. And even though you have moving cylinders in the engine (well designed as well), they can't be seen with all of the additional pieces surrounding them. Still, it looks pretty cool once done, and getting all of the parts of a 16 cylinder engine moving together smoothly is quite a feat.

Great Kit! Tons of Fun!
This building block kit was a great activity to do with my son.The entire build time was about 6-8 hours. There were no missing pieces, and all the parts were stored in numbered bags, so I didn't need to dump 1100+ pieces into a bucket and go fishing every time I needed one.The build quality of the pieces was excellent, which is often hit or miss with non-Lego building kits, and they fit together with a satisfying click. Thanks to the very detailed, photo-heavy manual, assembly was a snap.

I absolutely love this model engine!!!
As a lifelong automotive enthusiast, building this engine model was an absolute joy – the pieces fit together perfectly, and I was amazed at how smoothly the pistons, turbocharger, and exhaust system work when powered up! The step-by-step 3D instructions made assembly surprisingly straightforward (even for complex mechanical sections), and I loved watching the transparent design come to life while learning real engine mechanics. The quality of the bricks is exceptional – nothing wobbles or falls apart, yet everything moves with buttery smoothness when the battery box kicks in. This isn't just a model; it's a functional work of art that now has pride of place on my desk, where I constantly catch myself admiring the intricate movements. Whether you're a gearhead, LEGO fan, or just love technical challenges, this kit delivers incredible value and satisfaction – worth every penny and easily the most impressive build I've ever completed!

Snap together w16 engine, requires six AAA batteries.
This kit consists of 955 pieces, so quite a bit. They're basically Legos, they look the same, they snapped together the same. It is pretty large once assembled, 11.9 in long by 5.9 in wide by 5.82 in tall. It does have a starter motor, or a motor that turns it over, it doesn't actually run, but it does spin the engine over. The directions are decent, they're all pictures, not much reading to do. Overall it's pretty cool, is not what I thought it was though, but still decent.
