Expect 12-18 months of life, for a foam pillow. Hand fluffing it for about 10 seconds after each use helps prevent flattening for a longer time. Make sure to always use a "pillow protector" cover, to prevent dust, oil, and hair getting into the pillow. Foam pillows are great for side sleepers, down pillows are great for face or back sleepers.

I've never owned a shredded foam pillow. Mine just arrived and it is flat and lumpy. What do I do to fluff it up and smooth out the lumps?

Fluff it up. Don't worry about the lumps. They'll compress when you rest your head on the pillow. You can fluff it every time it feels flat, and that will help maintain the loft and cushiness. You can fluff the foam pieces into areas that support your head position. I bought mine very recently and I'm really happy with it.

the pillow smells like it has a lot of industrial gas coming from it after i have opened it.. what should i do to fix that?

I purchased my first Coop Pillow back in April of 2022. My wife and I are very sensitive to chemical smells. After reading reviews we were a little hesitant but was very relieved that we found no odor coming from it at all. I just ordered one for my wife and if this is any different, I will do a follow up and make note of it.
