Gift for my hubby
We needed help identifying trees as we installed a wood stove. We knew the type of wood to burn is important and plan to do the work ourselves. This book is exactly what we needed. Great pics for referencing and great information. Happy hubby….happy wife.

Nice field guide
A very comprehensive look at ID'ing trees. If you love trees and want to learn more, this is the book!

Indespensable
Short and to the point, and only focuses on common trees in my area. Too many books just show identifying features, but in my mind a good book should help to assign a personality or character to each tree by giving some backstory, or notes on what the tree likes and dislikes. To me, this makes the tree memorable and even relatable.

Good bark id's, not so good on leaves.

Good beginners guide
I have just started getting interested in foraging for wild mushrooms and knowing your trees is an essential skill. I found this book to be a great introduction to tree identification. Sure, as some of the less glowing reviews mention, it is stripped down to the bare minimum of information. I could have used another paragraph or two for each of the trees. Maybe a few more pictures of the differences as a species matures. But that's okay, this book has still been a great resource. I've already been out in the woods several times this January. Maples are a little tricky, and I'm still struggling with Aspen versus the paper and gray birches. But I'm getting better every time out.You can whip through this book in a couple of hours, and I've done that twice. I may supplement this book with one or two more, but it's definitely a keeper that stands on its own.

Great information
This book is rather helpful as I'm horrible with tree Id if I can't see the leaves on some trees. But what would have made this book even better for a wood worker like me, is if there were pictures of cut pieces to see the heart wood and grain. Even without that bit it's still a nice book to have.

Easy and effective for the novice
This guide was very easy to use and highlighted features specific to each tree that were different from similar trees. I found the coverage maps useful to include or eliminate possible identifications. The book won't teach you to identify every single tree in the world. It doesn't confuse or frustrate a beginner with too much information.

It's in the title....it's a beginners guide
This is a good book for basic recognition of trees by leaf or bark. I like that it gives you a list of commonly mistaken IDs for each tree and gives key differences.Would be nice if it included photographs and a little more identifying data, and also a little more on the trees themselves....preferred habitat, uses, etc.Still, a very useful field guide for folks who are just learning their neighborhood trees.
