Excellent adapter
Bought this to connect my daughter's MacBook to a Viewsonic monitor rather than buying the Apple a) because of price; b) because Apple fans though we are, we are not impressed by some of the peripherals - bad experiences with keyboards and mice - and I've discovered that you don't always get what you pay for, so this was worth a try. And a very successful try it's been. Bought a dual link video cable at the same time because we knew the adapter wouldn't stretch the distance between the computer and the monitor and she now has a sharp, clear image, very important as she does a lot of reading on screen. cheap build but works
Does what you want it to do - so perfect.Build seems a little cheaper than the Apple mini DVI to VGA cable that I've also got - you can see the moulding joins on the mini DVI plug, and the large DVI plug also feels very cheap as it's made of matte plastic. Cable has some black writing on it, but is a little longer than my other cable.

works well with old macbook (early 2008)
I bought this to connect my girlfriend's old Macbook (4,1 early 2008) to a DVI monitor. It's not as sturdy as it could be but for the money I think it's a good deal.Note that this is a mini-DVI cable, not a mini-DisplayPort (used on newer macs) so check your computer's specifications prior to buying!

Only partially works, YMMV
Had some difficulty getting this to work with a Dell 20" monitor and a 2008 Macbook. It was possible to get video output on the monitor, but each time the laptop went to sleep the video would stop working. Ordered an Apple adapter and that works fine in the same setup. Also, connector is a very tight fit in the mini DVI socket, making it hard to remove. Buy with caution, YMMV.

Does the job- plug in normal monitor to macbook, but is not a great fit- and if knocked the screen goes blank- would buy genuine Apple instead of this!
