Bought the game used, only thing wrong is the case.
First off all I will say is I have always wanted to play this game & after all these years I finally got it & able to play it after years of wanting the game.Anyway for my review the gameplay is your traditional Bat Em Up/Side scrolling game. The games follows the events of the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist Anime. You pretty much relive every event from the anime. So if you have never seen the original 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist Anime then this game is a good way to experience it in all honesty even if it is toned down in parts. For some cutscenes they are taking straight out of the anime. Same with the voice acting (taken straight from the anime) though they are shortened & a bit mashed together. Though even though some cut scenes & voices are taken from the anime. There is a lot of text dialogue to read when there is no voiced cut scenes playing though. Voiced cut scenes seem to play during major & key events. There is 6 playable characters in the game after you beat the game you can go back & replay any level with them. They are Edward, Al, Colonel Roy Mustang, Major Armstrong, Edward & Al's Teacher Izumi, & Scar. Also I said this game is mostly a Beat Em Up/Side scrolling game. There is also mini puzzles to do that require the use of the touchscreen. Like untying ropes you literally use the touchscreen to untie ropes, You have to draw alchemy circles, press all the dots (on the touchscreen) as they light up before the time runs out, & etc.So all in all I got to say this game is amazingly fun & just glad I finally got my hands on it after all these years lol. Also the case looks like someone spilled soda or coffee on it. So a bit disappointed by that but hey what do you expect when buying a used product but the manual/booklet is in perfect condition & the game works & is in perfect condition. So rated 5 stars based on the fact I pretty much got what I was expecting when I ordered this & felt like a soda or coffee stain doesn't deserve a missing star since everything else is perfect.

Too much story, not enough gameplay!
When I first bought this game, I had high expectations for it and was very excited to receive it. I mean, being such a popular series, the video game should be awesome, right? However, when I opened the game and played it through, I was disappointed.Almost all of the game is cutscenes and story--it was almost like rewatching the series, but it a very condensed version. Much of the story was cut out, and if you bought it without having prior knowledge of the plot and characters, you would be quickly lost. Many characters have no introduction and yet seem to be pretty major in the storyline, while others are only mentioned briefly in dialogue. Some of the characters have their original voice actors saying some lines, but these are few and far between, and the lines often sound forced and rushed. What's more is that several times the voice actor says only a snippet of the line of text that you read. The cutscenes last so long that I can honestly say that I was a little surprised when it got back to gameplay, since I was spending so much time reading the story that I totally forgot this was a game and not a show. The gameplay itself is a little stale--you beat up a whole bunch of baddies and chimeras, only to have another cutscene interrupt gameplay for a period of at least five minutes. When you first start playing, there is no tutorial, so you have to figure out how to do everything yourself, which can be quite confusing. There is a selection of mini-games that you have to play through before you can unlock for free play, and these actually have more variety when it comes to playing than the story mode. You don't even get to play through most of the best parts, such as my personal favorite, Ed's State Alchemist exam. The majority of boss battles are against the Homunculi. The game contains artwork from the anime series, which is neat to look at, but these are only still-shots and are on the top screen, having nothing to do with the pixel characters you play as.Playing through the whole game, I probably only spent three or three-and-a-half hours in total, two-thirds of being cutscenes I had to sit through for the majority of the game.Overall, I only recommend this game if you've either read the manga or watched the first anime series, and if you want to play for a while as Ed, Al, or some other characters. If you've never really gotten into the series, I suggest doing your homework before picking up Duel Sympathy, or you'll be confused in no time.
