In the Pocket In Oregon
I really enjoyed the last portion of the book when she got to Oregon. She described the things she saw there so vividly, especially Mount Mazama. Some of these descriptions will stay in my head forever, However, throughout the book I kept thinking that her mom's death was not the only reason she acted so foolhardy and well...selfishly, even though she kept insisting that it was. Some of her sexual *thoughts* about other hikers would not be accepted if they had been written by a male author. I mean...yikes, they sound like they are written by an adolescent and somewhat creepy BOY. And the story about the horse? Oh my! This horse needed *friends* who had wisdom and maturity not this girl at her most impulsive and erratic time of her life. Again, enjoyed the Oregon passages...though now I wonder if she revisited these sites AFTER living in Oregon, written when she was more mature?
