The soundtrack to "The Mercy" is pretty good. This is another pretty good soundtrack / score from Jóhann Jóhannsson. It is solid, well-done and decently entertaining. Johann has done it again and delivered another classic film ...
Johann has done it again and delivered another classic film score. I admit that I raised an eyebrow when I saw that he included tracks from previous albums. However, I must say they fit into the sonic landscape perfectly-especially the Orphee tracks which are pure brilliance. The 'title' track-18- The Mercy is a masterpiece. Possibly his greatest- it so grand.

Good intro to his music
Various related music from throughout his career. A soundtrack to read or to meditate with.

Bonne musique contemporaine
Sans être au niveau des grands maîtres de la musique minimaliste contemporaine (Glass, Pärt notamment) cet enregistrement mérite une écoute attentive sinon il pourrait faire partie des musiques d’aérogares, ce qu’il n’est pas.

Beautiful, evocative music
This score alone (even without having seen the film) seems to be capable of conveying what must have been the emotions and trauma of Donald Crowhurst's attempt at the Sunday Times Golden Globe solo round the world yacht race, that ended in tragedy. As others have commented, this really excellent score incorporates tracks from other Jóhannsson albums (Karen býr til engil from Englabörn; Good Morning, Midnight, A Sparrow Alighted Upon Our Shoulder, and A Pile of Dust, and The Radiant City, from Orphée; Meditation, Innocence, and Radio from the "Free The Mind" soundtrack; and Three Thousand Five Hundred And Ninety One Benches, and She Loves To Ride The Port Ferry When It Rains, from the "Copenhagen Dreams" soundtrack. This is not a bad thing, at all, as the combination of all these tracks and the new material really does work very powerfully together, and in fact I recommend listening to this entire album at one sitting wherever possible. Jóhann Jóhannsson really had something and his death early this year is a tragic loss. I wholeheartedly recommend his other works, too of course, such as Orphée, Mary Magdalene, The Miners' Hymns, The Theory of Everything, Englabörn. As also stated in my review of Mary Magdalene, there are other things one can look forward to: his music for the film Mandy, due for release September 2018, and also perhaps the unused/unfinished work he wrote for the film Christopher Robin (which is dedicated to Jóhannsson), and also the unused score Jóhannsson wrote for Bladerunner 2049. There may be even more that we do not yet know about.

Four Stars
Musically very good but none of the pieces have enough time to develop, hence the loss of one star.

Mélodieuse
Une belle partition de Johan Johansson (compositeur de Sicario, The Arrival) : douce, mélodieuse, émouvante.
