Surprisingly lightweight
I purchased the Horizon Hound down blanket and I’m really impressed. It’s surprisingly lightweight—only about 500 grams—yet still manages to be warm and comfortable even on chilly nights. The material feels high‑quality, the fabric is durable, and it doesn’t attract dirt easily. The water‑resistant feature is a big plus when you're outdoors. The blanket packs down to a very small size and fits easily into a bag, making it perfect for hiking, camping, picnics, or even just throwing over your shoulders at outdoor events. I especially liked the option to snap it into a poncho—it’s a smart and convenient touch. Overall, it’s an excellent product that feels premium, practical, and very good value for the price. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a lightweight, compact blanket that delivers impressive warmth.

Better than if I Designed it Myself
As an experienced, long-time, year ‘round wilderness backpacker, I could not be happier with this product. It is *precisely* what I was looking for. For traveling through the woods, up and down mountains, for days and nights on end, cut off from civilization, there are three primary considerations that go into every piece of gear: Utility, packability, and weight. This blanket is, hands down, the best solution for backpacking in spring, summer, and fall. You’re not going to find anything with a better weight-to-heat retention ratio, or that packs down as small and compact as this does. If like me, you are trying to get a sense of the size and weight of this item from the comments or from the pictures, let me describe it for you like this: While in the stuff sack it comes with, this blanket is about the size of a regular loaf of white bread, at about half the weight. But this isn’t as far as it will compact. It will compact to half this size if you need it to. Size when fluffed, lofted, and fully unfurled, the blanket is the perfect size for one full-size man. I am 6’, and this is perfect for me with no extra, excessive, unecessary material. I was worried it would come with an excessive amount of material, and for that reason I was considering going with a goose-down ‘throw’ rather than a ‘blanket’. I’m glad I didn’t. As it is, I have no trouble covering up completely with this blanket, nor is there any excess material (meaning unecessary, additional weight and space consumption in my pack). Warmth: As I said, this is the perfect alternative to a sleeping bag for spring, summer, and fall. Somebody else claimed this will only keep you warm down to 60-70 degrees? I totally disagree. I don’t even know why you would need a blanket if it’s 70 degrees. This is 650 down, you can stay comfortable with this blanket easily, as long as you have on other layers (clothes) down to at least 45-50 degrees, and probably even lower. (The idea that you stay warmer under insulation if you take off your clothes is the stupidest, yet most repeated, myth I’ve ever heard.) Another thing I would like to add is that this thing is incredibly versatile. Much more versatile than a sleeping bag or the “quilts” that REI sells. It has button snaps along two edges that allow you to wear it as a sort of jacket, or shawl - almost in the style of a hoodless poncho - while freeing your arms and allowing you to do things around camp. Even at home, this has become my go-to blanket for everything. It’s just simple, nothing complex about it, and it just gets the job done. Anyway, there’s my two cents. I wanted to make sure to review this product for the benefit of the company, My thanks for making such a killer product at such an unbelievably fair price. And also, I wanted other woodsmen and backpackers to benefit from this product. I could not be happier. My pack size and weight just went down by pounds. Not ounces, pounds. *I originally wrote this review years ago, and this blanket remains one of the simplest, most versatile and valuable items I’ve ever purchased even now in 2021. I would recommend everyone have a couple in their vehicles as a comfort/emergency item.

Happily surprised
Just used this for the first time. At the first unpacking I was skeptical this would be warm or even hold up but decided to just give it shot. I backpack and kayak camp so size wise I love how lightweight and small this packs up, makes it perfect for conservative packing. I used this in 55-60 degree weather. I ended up actually being warm with this on and needed to air out, that’s not a con at all, this quilt was deceptively warm and cozy. Perfect alone for summer camping and a great extra insulator for a sleeping bag in winter weather. I also snagged and yanked this quilt twice in my sleeping bag zipper on accident, I was sure it tore but it did not, so it’s more durable than it feels. I washed it after my trip per the instructions and it washed and dried great. I’ve only used this once but was extremely happy with the purchase. Hope it holds up overtime.

Good bang for the bucket camp blanket
I have tried out the Get Out Gear, 3M iClimb, and Rumpl blankets as well and I believe the Horizon Hound (HH) to be the best bang for the buck. We own two of them. I would also like to try the Wise Owl, 4Monster, and KingCamp brands. If I ever do I will update this review. The Get Out Gear is $2-3 more than this blanket right now and didn't feel quite as nice. I had an orange one and lifted it up to bright filtered sunlight in my living room. The material is quite thin—the sunlight easily penetrated the material and I could easily see the silhouette of the filling within. The filling was dispersed unevenly throughout the blanket. There were a few squares within the quilting that had very little to hardly any filling at all. More than a handful had much more than others. I have lifted both of my HH blankets to direct sunlight outdoors. You cannot see through the material at all. Some light peaks through in tiny holes within the stitching but none through the blanket material. The HH feels and looks like better quality material than the Get Out Gear blanket. Since I could not see the silhouette of the filling in the HH blankets I cannot speak to the evenness of the filling but just by looking at it completely aired out and unfolded it looks even enough. The Rumpl blankets are nice—curved quilting patterns and pop art designs but VERY overpriced. I think all of the blankets mentioned are overpriced including the HH. I have seen some grumps say all these blankets are nothing but overpriced unzipped sleeping bags and I see where they are coming from. However, these blankets are not sleeping bags. They are lightweight warm blankets that are easy to hike/backpack with, pack down quickly and do not take up a lot of storage space so easy to keep in the car or clip to a bag. Also the best feature is to be able to easily wear the blanket like a poncho. Most sleeping bags are much too bulky for all that. The 3M is not quite like the other blankets mentioned above. It is almost half the price of the Horizon Hound but has thinner filling. The one I received has much lower quality stitching as well. However, I kept it because it has some nice features the others, including the HH, do not: metal buttons, packs into itself, has buttons on both sides and a draw string to use as a light sleeping bag, the nylon is slippery but buttery soft, and I love the color. As for the Horizon Hound itself... Again, I think it is overpriced but not by that much. Especially compared to the Rumpl blankets. I think $50 is more reasonable for a simple lightweight blanket like this. The material and stitching is good quality. There are a few minor stitching flaws and for $67+ it shouldn’t have any. However, I will say that I have seen as much or worse in all of the other brands. It is not as buttery soft as some of the others but is still quite soft, warm, and comfortable. I felt warm wearing it with as poncho and wrapped around my body with a t-shirt and thin sweatpants on a cloudy 50 degree windy morning in the Puget Sound area. It feels just a bit thicker than the other blankets. For reference for the photos I posted I am a 5’5” medium build woman. As a poncho the blanket is the perfect length covering almost the entire length of my body without touching the ground. I wish there were more size options because my husband is broad shoulder and lean 6’3” and loves this blanket but obviously doesn’t get the same length coverage as me. However, like me, the blanket wraps around his body with plenty of coverage. I like the large heavyweight finger slot/handles. Much sturdier than any other brands. I also like the position of the handles. The buttons are plastic and feel sturdy enough for now but I do wonder how long they will last. Perhaps metal buttons would feel nicer? We like that you can snap two blankets together. A feature I would love to see is buttons on opposite sides of the blanket with a draw string at the bottom to turn it into a complete blanket wrap/light sleeping bag (a feature I like about the 3M iClimb blanket). I would love to see more colors. I don't care for extra bright patterns like some of the Rumpl designs but I think the overall market is lacking prettier color options. I think adding more variety in colors (pastels and muted bright tones for an example) with the current quality of material, finish work, and price would make it a 5 star product. Then add an extra feature or two like I mentioned before and it would make it an undeniable 5-star product. The advice is free, Horizon Hound, but you can always get into contact with me to send a check or I would love to be a guinea pig for blankets with new colors and features one day. Overall this blanket is the best bang for the buck with a little room for improvement. I have the green color as well and it is consistent with the blue one in overall quality. I recommend this product to anyone looking for a good quality camp blanket.

Best blankie ever! Warm but not hot, cool but not cold. Compresses to nothing for travel! I bought one for a friend too! Material is water resistant so no stains. Very durable but not scratchy and the perfect size for just me!

Lightweight, warm, and versatile
I bought this on a whim and wow! This is probably my favorite and most-used thing I have ever bought on Amazon. I use it every day, all year, and I have bought nine to give as gifts (and none of us are campers). It is my go-to hostess gift if I am staying with someone for more than a few days. It's on my bed at night, and I bring it on my deck in the morning to drink my coffee and it somehow maintains the perfect temperature no matter what the season. It's on my sofa in the evenings. It is so lightweight--it's the opposite of bulky. I have a small dog that likes to burrow when she sleeps, and she loves to crawl under this because it keeps her cozy but she can still move around and not pant or get too sweaty. It is machine washable and it folds up small. It has changed overseas/overnight plane trips for me forever --it makes getting comfortable in an economy seat so much easier, not to mention getting comfy in strange hotel rooms. It's great to have on road trips. I have had mine for years and washed it a hundred time and it has held up beautifully. I don't think I have ever seen a feather sneaking out of it. I cannot recommend this highly enough. LOVE.

Comfort, if you know how to use it
This is a superb blanket. I have the heaviest blanket and used it down to 42 and slept warm. It is light and packs small. For those who have had trouble keeping it on themselves or your feet, there is a simple answer. Turn the blanket 45 degrees placing a pointed end over the head and feet. Seal the foot end by putting the two sides together off the bottom corner and using tarp clips, available at Amazon or hardware stores, to join them. Adjust them as needed to close tightly. Screw down type are best. Then lay the blanket over you like a backpacking quilt. The top should cover your head while the feet are ensconced in foot end.

good qualities
Really happy with this blanket. The quality is great and it’s super warm, but still lightweight. It’s also easy to pack up and doesn’t take much space. Perfect for camping.

Great summer duvet/blanket
This blanket works very well for me as a summer duvet on my sailboat. I can stow it away small, it provides just the right warmth when it is a bit cold and damp. I have the midnight blue and it looks great too. I have put aside my old, much heavier and bulkier sleeping bag with noisy zippers and this is now my preferred duvet for summer sailing and camping. The few times it goes below 15C, I simply put an heavier pyjamas on and. It is fine. I recommend this product. Time will tell but my I sense that it will last for a long time.
