You'll be hard-pressed to find a better single issue from the black-and-white indy comics boom. To many it's the most noteworthy. Before the cartoons, toys, and movies, this story could have easily stood well on it's own for all time in my book.This artisan edition is a celebration not only of the Turtles, but the art that introduced us to them. It's really a three-part book. It contains scans of the original layouts by Kevin Eastman, the pre-duoshade inks that were later used in early colorized reprints, and COLOR scans of the final duoshade artwork. For those interested in how comics are made, this is a treat. Eagle-eyes will notice that there are MORE changes from the ink scans to the duoshade scans than just the application of the duoshade developer.Things they could have done differently: A Peter Laird introduction as a companion to Kevin's. If available, it would have been fantastic to have included the First Comics colorized painted version and a scan of the cover with the red overlay. A surprising omission were scans of the original turtle drawings pre-publication. We see a few which are welcomed, but we're definitely missing the first ones Kevin and Peter drew along with an early group-shot. Some commentary on the margins for the layouts would have been a fun addition as they were working out the story. Some of this may not have been possible, and none of it warrants a demerit.If you've been on the fence, hop off and get this ordered. I can only hope to see future volumes done since it sounds like the original materials might still be around in the Eastman and Laird archives. Highly recommended!

Reading a comic book with notes makes a difference. It is a great story and let's you enjoy the extra information

Superbe album où on découvre ou redécouvre la première histoire des Tortues Ninjas mais en 3 étapes, sous forme évolutive d'un point de vue production/réalisation de comics :- la version storyboard/scénarimage- la version encrée- et la version finale colorée (en valeur de gris car comics en "noir et blanc")Un très bel ouvrage où on apprécie de lire les aventures de nos tortues mutantes préférées sous différents formats visuels que sont les différentes étapes (en tout cas une partie) de la fabrication d'une BD/comics...Dommage que le service d'expédition n'est pas pris le soin de bien protéger la BD dans le carton d'envoi et qu'elle soit arrivée un peu abîmée...

If you grew up with the Turtles, then don't even bother wasting your time with the rest of this review and just go right ahead a purchase this book. You already know you can't afford the original comic, so this is the next best thing. But to tell you the truth I like this even more because it takes you through the whole process and what they were thinking and doing while creating this masterpiece. You not only get scans of the original at actual size, but you get the entire process from early sketches to full shading. It's not just the original story in a bigger size, it's a true Artisan Edition in Hardback. It's amazing and that's something I don't just throw around a lot on comics and remakes. This is a true Collectible for anyone and especially for a true 80's kid and Turtles fan. Reading this book and even just looking at it really takes you back to those Christmases when you came down the steps and seen mountains of Turtle Figures under the tree. Trust me, it really takes you back to those days. Buy this book and don't think twice about it.

The book is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, Amazon treated this book like it was garbage. The packaging was much too large and as a result the book arrived damaged. If you care about the condition your product arrives in, do not order from Amazon.
