DOES NOT HOLD UP & A WARRANTY WORTH *&^%$#!!
We purchased the Tara faucet as a splurge for a very high-end kitchen update. You know: Miele dishwasher; Wolf ovens; SubZero; and a custom made sink. You get the idea. This was to be our last renovation project, having done the same to previous homes over 40 years, but never at this level. This was to be our last house. The one we would live out our remaining years. And after a long search, we found Dornbracht faucets and fell in love. We are told today by Dornbracht that it comes with a FIVE YEAR PARTS warranty, not the LIFETIME warranty we were told when we bought it. But we never gave much thought to the warranty, because we knew we would baby it from the day it arrived. And we did, so the warranty never mattered much to us - until it did.Almost from the beginning, the top of the faucet head would sporadically spray water out the top, getting everything and everyone in its path wet. Okay. Not the end of the world. We would turn off the water, re-tighten the top, and we would be good for a couple of months until it happened again. But then the flip-switch that takes the water from stream-to-spray and back again, began to malfunction. It got so bad that I contacted Dornbracht. They asked me to send pictures. I not only sent pictures, I sent a video that showed how the defect was manifesting itself. In response to my pictures and video, I received an email from Dornbracht saying the following: "The warranty covers replacement parts at Dornbracht’s discretion and we do not cover labor costs." They said they would send me a REBUILD KIT. Yes, you read that right. They would send out a kit that had the parts we needed to rebuild the faucet head. And they even sent a schematic that showed where each tiny piece should go!We exchanged some emails back and forth - including one in which I told them that: (1) we were in our seventies and probably could not rebuild a plumbing fixture ourselves; and (2) the plumber we contacted said he could not be responsible for damage to the beautiful finish if everything did not go exactly right in the rebuilding process - and the cost would run about $500, given the projected time it would take to rebuild the fixture. He urged us to request a new faucet; not a building kit. So I did.The response from Dornbracht was to say they recommend water pressure of only 44 psi. But no one had asked what our water pressure was, and I never said what it was. Why were we talking about water pressure? But this was how they responded to what I had written. (And for what it is worth, I looked up the water pressure in the installation pamphlet - and it ranges from 1 bar (14 psi) to 5 bars ( 72.5 psi) without any warning to keep the pressure at a recommended 3 bars (43.5 psi) - or you will be at risk of damaging the fixture in under three years time! They seem to be suggesting - but never actually say - that this well built faucet became defective because we MIGHT have exceeded the recommended water pressure limit; but they really did not know. They just said the faucet would need to be rebuilt - BY US.The faucet was purchased in October of 2016. This is being written in June of 2019. Do the math. The fixture is not even three years old. And a rebuild kit is not a warranty worth the paper it is printed on. The faucet is about as worthwhile as a customer service department that won't replace a defective product. So, if you like the idea of rebuilding a plumbing fixture that cost you about $2000 out of the box, this is the fixture for you. If you think you might regret your purchase when you discover that the faucet that cost you thousands of dollars got destroyed with normal use and you are expected to rebuild it yourself, you might want to think again. (I posted this review under other Tara Dornbracht faucets because they are all the same model and primary fixture. The one we own is a two-hole Tara in platinum.)
