not merely bad -- tedious, opaque, juvenile, badly acted, badly written, low quality print, sloppily edited, hiding mediocrity behind "symbolism" and hat tips to rimbaud -- it's also a complete nullity of cinema culture, compared both to the far more transgressive " Salo Or 120 Days of Sodom" and the far more passionate "Gospel According to Saint Matthew." if you're interested in pasolini, go there first. this film is just emptiness in search of a bottle to define it.

Being familiar with some of Pasolini's work, I was surprised to watch this jewel. Some of his previous work has been Banned in all countries because of it's "in your face" stark eroticism and sexual explicitness. Teorama is very subtle and stylistic whereby every seduction is followed up with effects it has on the seductee which ranged from enlightenment to ...... (don't want to spoil it for you in case you decide to view it)I suspect Pasolini was the prototype for other producers like Brian DePalma's Body Double w/ Melanie Griffith and Dressed to Kill w/ Angie Dickinson and Michael Caine.I_am_Philm

Thanks for checking back with me, I was about to contact you, have been very busy. The DVD sent to me was totally defective. I watched it in the hope that the defect would clear up as it was an important film for me to see but it was a painful experience because the image would get stuck every three seconds and I had to wait with a frozen image continually to move on. Such a defective product never should have been sent to me and I would be happy to send it back so you can see for yourselves. I realize this is a difficult film to obtain with English subtitles but this DVD was a disaster. I had previously ordered Teorema from you but it came with Spanish subtitles. That DVD is excellent in its quality but clearly I was interested in English subtitles. I am not really requesting a refund I sat through the film and now know what the story is but I was surprised that Amazon could allow such a defective product to be sent in the first place. This disc is in Italian with no subtitles. My Italian is pretty rusty, so I couldn't follow some of the dialogue. I saw the movie about 25 years ago in a theater (with subtitles), so I certainly got the gist. I wish someone would put out a subtitled edition.

A Criterion edition of the full-length film would be nice. For now, I will accept MGM's edited version, which is not bad, but is clearly incomplete.

Teorema is Italian for theory. Pasolini, who wrote and directed this film hypothesises what would happen if Eros were to be introduced to an upper middle class family, and then leave. His movie really makes you think. Excellent acting, excellent directing, wonderful camera work; he really puts his theory to the test and lets you draw your own conclusions.

Die Beschreibung des Filmes gibt die Handlung des Buches wider, aber nicht des Films. Die skandalösen Szenen im Buch kommen im Film in abgeschwächter Form vor, so dass sie ihrer Extravaganz beraubt wurden, der Film wird dadurch langweilig.
