What color and how many repetitions should I perform for the FlexBar elbow exercise?

Most people will start with the Red FlexBar and then can progress upwards as the injury improves and strength increases. If you are experiencing a higher level of pain, we would recommend starting at the lowest resistance, Yellow, and building from there. Start off by completing 3 sets of 15 repetitions twice a day, and then progress to the next color and reduce your repititions. Keep in mind that the exercise will be painful at first, but should subside within a week or two.

If i have pain in both elbows, can I still use the flexbar?

A lot of people experience elbow pain in both elbows, but you can still use the Flexbar! Many people exercise the most painful side first, and then exercise the other side after some relief. Note -Â when you first use the flexbar exercise, it will be painful for the first week or so. However, always consult your healthcare provider for your own safety if these symptoms are ongoing.

Is this useful for pain in my thumbs?

I have arthritis at the base of my thumbs and using the red bar hurts both thumbs, but I've not had the surgery yet. If you have had the surgery within the last few months, I would not use it, BUT ask your OT.

Can I use the flex bar if I have tennis elbow in both arms? Or will I be damaging one while working on the other? Thanks.

Unless your elbows are a surgical emergency, the FlexBar exercise for tennis elbow would not be considered a damaging exercise. I'd advise purchasing the red and green FlexBars to find the resistance level that matches best to your body. You should do both arms whether you have tennis elbow or not - just like all exercises that can be done on both sides. As a part of your routine fitness exercises in the weight room, I would consider the FlexBar eccentric contraction exercise to be safer than the more common dumbbell wrist extension, the latter carrying some risk of extensor tendon damage and "ganglion" formation on the posterior side of the wrist.

Excellent

I bought this product because I have a long term elbow/forearm strain injury that I could not seem to heal from (I’ve had it for about five years). After using the flexbar for about three months, I have started to feel noticeable improvement. There are plenty of video tutorials online that show you how to get the best from it, and once you work out which exercises to use you will soon feel the benefit.

Recommended by my personal trainer to improve wrist & hand strength & flexibility, help reduce pain.

My personal trainer (the best I've had & very knowledgeable) recommended that I get a Theraband Flexbar to improve my hand and wrist strength, which I've noticed is not as strong as it used to be. I'm 61, fit and healthy, with strong legs but my upper body strength needs improvement. I've noticed that I'm finding it harder to get twist caps off bottles, plus I've got 'Golfers Elbow', even though I don't play golf! The thinnest Flexbar is yellow, the next one up in the range is red - ideal for starting off if you're not too weak, particularly females. It's made of solid flexible rubber, 30cm long x 3.5cm across. It comes sealed in thick cellophane wrapping, with a User Guide wrapped around the Flexbar. There are 2 exercises with b&w photos of a person using the Flexbar, and very brief instructions under each photo. The instructions didn't make sense to me, not descriptive enough, which was disappointing. I recommend that you look up online videos on how to use it. My PT, Nick of No Regrets Training, has online videos showing how to do a variety of exercises with the Flexbar. He also has an older Theraband Flexbar Instruction Manual, published in 2005, with 26 exercises (see my photos). Maybe Theraband should consider updating the Manual and including it with their Flexbars ...

Works Amazingly for Such Little Time Investment

Injured my elbow playing sports and it hurt for 6 months without getting better. Heard about this bar and took a chance on it. After watching some YouTube videos on how to use it, I did some exercises (3x a couple times a day; less than 5 minutes !) and within a week I was significantly better. I haven’t kept using it because I’m not great at doing PT, but I can highly recommend this product because I went from intense pain every day to just dull pain after using it for a couple weeks. I’m sure I’d be all better if I had kept at it.

Actually wild how fast this started working. Got tennis elbow from golfing. Been sore the last month. Found this. Did the exercise before golf, was still sore. Did it after golf and again this morning and my elbow feels so so much better already. Will continue doing it and seeing how it progresses but very happy with the purchase so far
