The cadent 1 is the entry-level bike in raleigh's urban fitness line. Whether you are looking for a fun ride down the local greenway or through the city on your way to work the cadent 1 is your perfect companion. 700C wheels keep the ride quick and efficient while flat handlebars and a sporty geometry keep the ride comfortable. 35C tires are fast rolling and smooth, but are wide enough to provide traction for an enjoyable path ride, organized ride, or your commute. Mechanical disc brakes are easy to maintain and provide the stopping confidence to get out and navigate all your city has to offer. With 21 speeds, rack and fender mounts, and strong double wall wheels you'll always be equipped for your next two-wheel adventure. Raleigh bicycles are designed around one simple idea: fun. It's an idea that inspired the very first bikes way back in 1887 and continues to inspire how things are done today. Hop on a Raleigh and enjoy the ride

Quality Bike
I've only had the bike for a week, but i definitely made a good choice selecting this model. I went with the Medium and it's a perfect fit. I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam and the top tube is about a 1/2" underneath me while standing.Assembly was pretty easy. Didn't have to follow the instructions, but based on briefly reviewing them, they seemed straight forward. I took the bike out for a spin and and fine tuned the brakes to my liking. I do like the fact that you only need a 6mm allen to make most adjustments.I'd highly recommend buying this model.

Great bike for the price!
Great bike for the price! For assembly all I needed was 5mm / 6mm hex keys, some medium needle-nose pliers with wire-cutter and some grease (I used Super-Lube from a local hardware store). The bike wasn't hard to assemble but it was a fiddly job, given that it was my first time. I spent about two hours on it. If you get into trouble, look up the Raleigh manual on the web.I've been riding the bike around town and it rides like a dream except for occasional shifting difficulty. I can't tell if that's my problem or an adjustment is needed somewhere.PS. I bought the tan model. It has a slight olive-green tinge not evident on the Amazon page.

Awesome Bike, Get ready to get your hands dirty. You get what you pay for (Lower price, assembly required)
I love this bike. First off, I am 5'10" and after looking at all of the other comments I decided to get the Medium size version of this bike. It fit perfectly right below my crotch. My inseam is about 31". I have to say though that the reason I am giving this bike a 4 stars is because assembly is super hard .(by assembly, I mean the tuning part). The instructional video is a bit confusing, and my bike chain kept coming off before I realized that the doohickey that was controlling the front gears needed to be moved up so that it was not impeding the chain as it went through the gears. So someone at the factory must've been like, "whatever, I did my part." Also, how the F*#^*k does this thing not have a bike stand?!! And don't give me the whole weight reduction spiel, that's the justification old Honda Civic modders say when they gut the seats and A/C components out of a perfectly good commuter car. If I wanted a scratched up bike I'd buy used.

Excellent lightweight entry-level bike with solid company behind it.
Lightweight, sturdy bike with solid company behind it. Bike came in semi-assembled, you have to do some work. There were couple of small pieces missing (brake rubber boot, cable ends). After contacting company they sent me missing parts in no time.Bike required some adjustments, wheels and pedals were little tight, make sure you have tools (thin ranches) and know what to do.Most time-consuming (but not complex) was derailleur adjustment. There are excellent videos on the tube, easy to follow.Manual is not very user-friendly. Too long, in small font. Didn't use it much. Came with set of hex wrenches, plus one more thin for pedal install/removal.Overall - A+, IF you know how to work with a bike. Otherwise take it to a shop and have them assemble it.

Easy setup! Great BIke!
Great Bike - built solid. For the price and intention - its what any beginner fitness bike enthusiat needs. For those looking for more comfort, buy an aftermarket seat. For those worried about putting it together, don't. You don't need to hire anybody to put the bike together for you. It basically comes in the box - rear tire attached with all of the gears and chain intact. All you have to do is mount the handle bars with minor adjustment, tighten and wire the v-brake setup. add air to tires and put pedals on. Search "V-Brake Bike Install" for the brakes. For those all you'll need is a pair of snips, pliers, and a screwdriver for minor spring tension adjustment. Took me about 20 minutes for the complete setup. Also - with the pedals - let the threads do the work and don't force them on (to avoid cross threading). They have a fine thread setup on them. That's it. Great bike. PS: for those looking for a more practical setup - I highly recommend the Ibera Bike rack. Fits perfectly and is super solid, not to mention setup for their snap on products which make life so much easier. For 500 bucks, i got a bike, a rack, a bike bag, a hand pump and two car roof racks! the whole setup!

I liked its classic retro look
I purchased the Tan Cadent, I liked its classic retro look. The Cadent is a good buy and fast for a hybrid bike, it has a rugged frame and the components are quality shimano, suntour, tektro and weinnman. A tip for buyers; to determine the correct frame size defer to your in seem measurement first, (like when you buy a pair of jeans), mine is 32" even though I am 6'3/4" tall, so I chose a medium 17 " bike. It gave me a 3 inch clearance from floor to crotch, over the top bar. If I chose a large frame there would have been only 1" clearance. Don't forget the top tube is curved and therefore makes the frame larger than if it was a conventional straight top tube. It's important to get a good fit in the bike or you won't enjoy it like you could. if you go to Raleigh bikes official site you can get top tube height specs and determine the right size frame for yourself. Included are a pair of pedals which were not the same as advertised at Raleigh's site, I called them and they replaced the cheap plastic pair with all steel/ alloy pedals, good customer service. You can't go wrong with the Cadent.

Great bike after some fixes
This bike rides nice and is just what I was looking for, a bike for general fitness. I had problems with the gears not working and Raleigh were not much help.

Great Bike for the Price
The bike was pretty easy to assemble, me being inexperienced in the bike world. The bike itself rides very well but I can feel the gears grind in the lower gears, but that could...

Missing Instructions; missing tools; bent front fork.
My 1st bike in almost 35 years. New bike arrived in battered box. No parts list, no assembly instructions and no tool kit for assembly.

great "around town" rider
Love this bike. It does run a bit large, I am 5' 10" and have longer legs, I purchased the large.

Good looks and light weight
Just bought the 19 inch frame Version. I was previously writing a 15 inch frame bike and was without a doubt too big for it.

A Raleigh is a Raleigh; no matter how you look at it.
Here are the down sides (first):Geometry - make sure you get the right size. Otherwise, you may hurt yourself when you hit the brakes (more on that later).
